We had the good fortune of connecting with Emily Pettingill and Sierra Gatrell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Emily and Sierra, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
There were three main concepts that brought us to creating Rosemary PG Studios. One, we wanted to put more clean fantasy content out into mainstream media. Two, we wanted to do something together as friends and have fun. Three, we wanted to share the stories and experiences that we love with others, so we could brighten other people’s lives during these dark and depressing times. Clean content is something that’s really important to the both of us. We were struggling to find media that fulfilled our epic fantasy aspirations and was also absent of inappropriate content (which to us involves cursing, sexual encounters, and hard drug abuse). Since we both loved film and fantasy we decided to create Rosemary PG Studios to share our own clean fantasy with others. Our goal was to help at least one person smile from our videos, and well, we both came out of filming with big grins! Eventually we took our goal and created our business motto, “Spark a Smile, Make a Memory.” If we can help just one person smile and brighten their day just a little bit, all of this will have been worth it.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Kicking off our studio wasn’t easy. We went through a lot of challenges and mistakes to get to where we are today. We started out by creating Dungeons & Dragons “How To” videos, teaching others how to play the game. Our first videos were rough. Nevertheless, we persisted. We learned from our mistakes and improved our content with each video. When financial setbacks arrived, we adapted and came up with creative solutions to continue making our videos. We still experiences struggles and setbacks, however we know better ways to overcome them and become better from them. One aspect we are really proud of is how we’ve stuck to our mission of brightening someone’s day through our videos! Even if that someone is just ourselves. A big lesson we have learned along the way, was to just have fun with it. To not worry about everything, and find the joy in creating content.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
When your best friend comes to town, there’s only one thing to do: Girls Night! First stop is to the closest grocery store to pick up a pint of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream. Next stop is Crumbl cookie and selecting four of the new flavors of the week. Immediately following we drive on over to our local CupBop for some Korean noodle goodness. We bring all of our supplies to whoever’s house we’re staying in and eat our noodle bowls while watching YouTube and Instagram reels. Afterwards we set up a movie, generally a chick-flick, and dine on cookies and ice cream while wrapped in blankets like burritos. This is what we consider to be the best relaxing time ever.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We want to thank and show our appreciation for Sierra’s parents, Lance and Laurie Gatrell. They were a huge support to us in our early developmental stage. They helped us so much with advice, equipment, funding, and encouragement. We are so grateful for their love and support!
