Meet Eric Beron | Architect | Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Eric Beron and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Eric, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
This has been (and will probably continue to be!) an ever-evolving cycle. Between running a business, being a husband, father, and finding time to do the things I enjoy – balance is a fleeting idea I wrestle with constantly. I prefer to define the work-life balance in another way: fulfillment. Work can define your life, but life can also define your work. For me, and as an architectural photographer, it has always been about finding opportunities that express your talent, skills, and capabilities that contribute to those around you. If you can find and do those things that fulfill your goals, the next step is to understand the balance or quantity at which we take things on that fulfill us. I have always been one to take on more and more, not because I am looking for the right thing to do – but, because I find fulfillment in doing those things. The evolution of the balance part of the equation is being more select about the quantity at which I take on the events and opportunities that fulfill my passions. This is the most challenging and the one aspect at which I need constant reminder and support to “slow down!” Do the things you love, but, don’t accomplish them all in one day!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Pursuing a creative career has always been in the cards – it just started a little traditionally and evolved as time went on. Architecture has always been inspiring to me, both as an idea and in the built environment around us. Being able to transform a vision from pen and paper to bricks and mortar still fascinates me. I am still a practicing architect today, assisting clients and communities to realize their dreams. Another lifelong passion has been photography – the seemingly endless volumes of photo albums with 4×6 prints in my basement are a testament to that! So, it was only natural that I combined those two passions – architecture and photography into one creative venture. Photography is as much about the process of documenting as it is about the art of illustrating the environment around us in an extraordinary way. Light, shadows, and form all influence the way we see the world around us. Capturing a client’s vision behind the lens is just as fulfilling as watching it grow from the pages it was drawn on. And thus, waiting with anticipation for just the right amount of light to christen a façade is a joy and inspiration like no other.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
First question I always ask – how much time to do you have?! There are so many wonderful places to experience and enjoy. Food is an instant favorite and one that I love celebrating to illustrate the local flavor of a city. Tucson has an abundance of great food and entrepreneurs that are willing to open their doors and share their perspective. Be sure and check out two of my favorites – Penca Restaurant and El Charro. If the outdoors are more your speed, Bear Canyon to Seven Falls Trail will not disappoint – but, remember to bring your water!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First and foremost, the most deserved shoutout would have to go to my family! My wife and two sons are the ones that bear the brunt of the helping me find balance with all of the activities that bring fulfillment to our lives. Second shoutout goes to all of my clients who support and trust me to deliver on their expectations every time I walk out the door. They are the ones that allow me to hone my talents and skills on a daily basis.
