We had the good fortune of connecting with April Schaffroth and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi April , we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
After graduating from ASU (go Sun Devils), I quickly found my niche in sales and moved my way up in the corporate world. As much as I loved working and learning in a corporate environment, I knew I wanted to own my own business. Little did I know, I would accomplish this goal before turning 30. I started my Farmers Insurance Agency and have loved every minute since. I am so grateful to have incredible staff and a fun office environment.

What should our readers know about your business?
Insurance is so exciting! Although many people may disagree, I truly believe it! I own a Farmers Insurance Agency and we insure anything you can stick a key in. We love social media and make fun and humorous 1-minute videos on a weekly basis to communicate the importance of having the right coverage in place. Owning a small business has its challenges but my daily mantra is there is no plan B! Once you have that focus, you will find ways to overcome any hurdle that is thrown your way. The best advice someone once shared with me, is to devote time to regularly review and update your business plan so your daily activities align with your short and long-term business goals. As an Agency Owner, I provide excellent customer service and the peace of mind for my clients. By taking time to get to know my clients and their needs I help insure they have the right coverage in place without any dangerous gaps or expensive overlaps in their auto, home, commercial or life insurance policies. After ten years of owning my Farmers Agency my experience has allowed me to also expand and create an entirely separate company called DPX DUI Process Experts. This is a free service which guides clients step by step to regain their license after being convicted of a DUI. Both companies allow me to best serve my community by utilizing my expertise with guidance, direction and resources. I am a huge advocate of giving back to my community and being involved in several different non-profits.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I feel very lucky to be a native of Arizona, my identical twin and I were born and raised in Scottsdale, Arizona. Arizona is so beautiful and we have a ton of hidden gems to explore. I am a huge fan of live music, art and trying new restaurants. I always take all of my visitors to Old Town Scottsdale, Downtown Phoenix and Tempe to explore all of the boutique shops and the fabulous restaurants that Arizona has to offer. Taking visitors on an adventure to Sedona to hike many of their breathtaking trails, see their majestic Red Rocks and watch the sunset with a glass of wine is always a favorite.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My biggest resource is the ability to connect with powerful entrepreneurs around me who inspire me every day. Not only do I mentor other women at every opportunity, I encourage women to find the time to share their talents and mentor other business owners. I am a huge believer in the phrase “Do what you say you are going to do”! I use this motto in both my professional and personal life. Once you demonstrate the trust you can and will bring to the table, everything else falls into place.
