Meet Eric Reyes | K-9 Instructor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Eric Reyes and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Eric, what is the most important factor behind your success?
We Teach the Basic Psychology behind your Canine Counterpart, so that Training Sessions are about the “Hows” and “Whys” behind the Troubled Behavior, Not just Repetitive Tricks Over and Over.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
When I first started my Business I was known as “Reyes K-9 Training Services”. I would come to a Clients house, Train their dogs and leave. Soon after, I started receiving calls that, “Even though my dog listens to you (Eric) My dog does not listen to me!”. It was then that I Realized I needed to Stop Training Dogs and start Educating the Owners on how to handle their dogs in any situation, the same way the Marine Corps taught me. I Rebranded the Business as “Reyes K-9 Academy”, Stepped into the role of “K-9 Instructor” and launched the “My Dog Obeys” Curriculum, which takes our Students from “Establishing Control” to “Off Leash Discipline”. We Teach and Impress upon the Students the importance of the Relational Dynamics between Handler and Dog in order to form the Solid type of Relationship that I had with my Military Working Dog. The Best part of what I do is showing others a Positive and Respectful Relationship with their Canine Counterpart they may not have thought was possible to attain.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I moved to Phoenix in August of 2019 and have enjoyed getting to know the area. If my friend came to visit for a week I would definitely take them to Top Golf, CB Live (for the Steak Nachos), Mellow Mushroom (Amazing Pepperoni Pizza), Scotts Generations (New York Style Deli), Dave and Busters (Best Mario Kart Ever!), Comicx Restaurant & Bar, Floor 13 Rooftop Bar (My friend took me there and I had a blast) and I would drive them down south to Visit Tombstone and to see “The Thing” in Dragoon! (Two Great Tourist Traps!)

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I Served in the United States Marine Corps from the age of 19 to 23. My job was as a Military Police, Military Working Dog, Explosive Detector Dog Handler for the Presidential Security Unit, Marine One, The Helicopter Squadron under George W. Bush. My Formal Education from the Marine Corps taught me the Psychology behind our Canine Counterparts as well as providing me the Experience and Training of Dedication and Commitment that only the Marine Corps can Provide. With 20 Years of Experience in my Field, I now Service the Civilian Sector turning Canine Owners into K-9 Handlers through Education and Training so that they can Proudly say, “My Dog Obeys”
