We had the good fortune of connecting with Esmeralda Durfee and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Esmeralda, we’d love to hear what makes you happy.
There is so much, but I would say my daughter is what makes me the happiest! I love making so many new memories with my daughter, seeing her grow each and every day. Seeing her little personality start to come out and just seeing her smile when she discovers all the new things. She is such a blessing!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am currently a licensed esthetician/wax specialist and certified laser technician over at The Wax Room in Surprise! I began my esthetician program in 2019 after graduating with my associates from GCC (Glendale Community College). I completed my esthetician program in February 2020, but unfortunately due to the pandemic my license testing was pushed back by a lot. When I finally got my certifications I had received an amazing opportunity at my previous job for a supervisor position. I had been at my previous job since I was 16 and had worked my way up. I was so grateful to have been chosen for the position. When I accepted the position my husband and I had started to look into buying a house! I didn’t come into the opportunity of using my esthetician license until we moved into our house. The scary part with going for the position over at The Wax Room is that we had just moved into our new home and didn’t know the stability of everything. With the support of my family and husband I was encouraged to go for the position and look where it has lead me! I have been able to meet amazing people and work with amazing girls! I have also recently obtained my Laser Technician certification! I cannot wait for what the future holds!

With content creating I have always had an interest in it since I was young. I would always walk around pretending like I was vlogging my parents got me a camera at a young age and I would always try to record makeup videos, I would ask my mom to take outfit of the day pictures. We would drive to downtown Phoenix and make a fun day out of it by going to fun coffee shops or restaurants and her helping me take instagram content! I have continued to make content whether is was hauls for our new house, prepping stuff for our wedding, a day in my life, and now content of my little growing family!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh this is a hard one! Ok so I would definitely want to take them to Sedona or Flagstaff, I feel like they are both so different but so beautiful! Plus we would want to escape the Phoenix heat for a day. We would need to get a boba at least once or twice during their trip! My favorite place at the moment is “Tea-riffic Churro”. Some other drink spots we would need to stop by at are Spencers Place and The Boyer Bakery! Those 2 are a weekly must. As for foods at Pho for Days I would order the Pho Tai Nam, it is delicious! We would also go to The Sicilian Butcher and order the Pepperoni pizza it has honey drizzle on it and is chefs kiss! I am definitely a foodie and feel like most of our itinerary would be stacked with food spots! If we go to Sedona we could do the Pink Jeep tours and for the days we stay in town we could go to The Deuce and have fun drinks or play outdoor games!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mom! She is the reason I first got a passion into the beauty world! I remember being little and watching her put her makeup on. I would sit with her at her vanity and take out every product out of her makeup bag one item at a time. I would open all of them and ask her each and every question about it. I would ask her which ones she was not going to use and if they could be mine haha. I was such a little girly girl, always had a cherry flavored lip gloss in my little purse. Besides the girly stuff, my parents always raised me to chase my dreams but to make sure I give it my everything. They would and still do tell me that whatever I set my mind to I can make happen and that was instilled into me, which I feel like is the reason that I do what I do. I was in a position prior to my current job where I had worked for since I was 16. I worked from the ground up into a supervisor position. I made it happen and thought that I would be fulfilled. I had a “big girl” job by the age of 23 with a salary, and would be crazy to leave that. However I would talk to my parents and fiancé then but husband now about how I still wanted to chase my dream of going and working as an esthetician. I was scared because it was such a huge risk, but they told me I would never know if I didn’t go for it. I wouldn’t be where I am now without them, without them I don’t know if I would have taken this leap.
