We had the good fortune of connecting with Evelyn Goslin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Evelyn, what role has risk played in your life or career?
The last few years for me have been nothing but risk taking and trusting I have what it takes. I took a huge risk when coming out as gay and leaving an almost 10 year marriage. I took a huge risk moving out on my own with me and my kids, even though I had hardly any experience outside of being a housewife. I am taking a huge risk starting this business and working hard to make money doing what I love.

Risks are vital to becoming the person you are meant to be. It takes a lot of work, and can be terrifying, but sometimes you have to be scared and do it anyway. When you finally succeed after taking that risk, the pride and joy it brings is greater than you could ever imagine!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve been crocheting since I was pregnant with my first child almost 10 years ago. It’s a skill I’ve become utterly obsessed with and become very proud of over the years.

Crocheting can be over saturated depending on where you are, so you have really wow people with your items, display, and personality. I think what sets me apart is the uniqueness of my items and display. They’re the popular items people love, but I really enjoy putting little details in there or making sure the quality is a step ahead above the rest. And I have a lot of fun with the displays and really telling a story with them. It draws people in and starts a conversation.

I think my bubbly personality helps a lot too. I always have folks coming in and just chatting for a while, and I really think it helps people feel comfortable and safe with me, which I love.

I’m still just starting out, but I’m confident I can go far with this. I’ve learned so much just from the few markets I’ve done and the people I’ve met. I think the biggest lesson I’ve learned so far is that community is VITAL in starting your own business. The people I’ve met and the friends I’ve made have taught me so much and helped me more than I ever thought they could.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Obviously we would have to hit up the craft stores and thrift stores in the area, you can’t have a girls trip without that!

Then we would go to a local restaurant for brunch, probably Landmark Cafe in Sierra Vista. After that we would hit up the park for our kids to get some energy out.

Later in the evening we would go to Hibachi Buffet in Sierra Vista for dinner, then go to Doc’s Watering Hole for drinks and dancing to end the night!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My girlfriend and my kids have been the greatest cheerleaders in my life. My girlfriend hypes me up every time I have a successful market or get an order, she always shares my posts to promote me to my friends, and brainstorms with me when I’m running short on ideas.

My kids always LOVE my items and ask to have them as soon as they’re done, and they promote my items to all the kids at school. They love coming to my markets and helping out at my booth, and they’re always giving me new ideas for things to make.
