We had the good fortune of connecting with Fatima Olea and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Fatima, why did you pursue a creative career?
Art and creativity have always been a really important part of my life. I’ve been drawing and painting since I can remember and always saw myself doing this for a living. My family’ and friends support on pursuing an artistic/creative career motivated me to never give up on my dreams of being an artist and sharing and inspiring people with my work.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I was born in Tucson Az but grew up in Obregon Sonora influenced and fascinated by the Mexican culture which has become a very important part of my art style where I share stories that create a connection between the painting and the viewer. During my college years I spend summers traveling the world taking painting workshops with amazing artists who I admire and keep inspiring me and reminding me there is so much more to learn and improve.
My brand’s story starts as a favor to my aunt who wanted some hand painted wine glasses and has evolved into a variety of custom products specializing in pet portraits and paintings on canvas, mugs, ornaments, glass, and pretty much everything our client’s hearts desire.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I feel Arizona has a lot to offer, we have a variety of activities such as hiking, art museums and galleries, incredible murals and amazing local restaurants. The cup cafe is a great place to start with a nice brunch, getting a nice walk around downtown and hotel congress. Downtown has great murals and very nice local bars as well were you can enjoy painting classes while you drink.
Visiting sabino canyon, dessert museum, saguaro national park or Mt. lemon for a hike. Even going to Sonoita to enjoy some wine and vineyards.
Definitely a lot out there to explore.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family, friends and all people who support my small business and my art. And the Friends of the National American Latino Museum for giving me a chance to represent the importance of the Latino culture and community through my art.
