We had the good fortune of connecting with Gemm and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Gemm, career-wise, where do you want to be in the end?
Dave Grohl spoke in an interview recently about one of Nirvana’s first meetings with the record execs in New York. He said he never heard Kurt talk about success and Kurts immediate response to the question from the execs of “What do you want to do with this band?,’ was “I want to be the biggest band in the world.” We’re not sure we’re aiming for that, yet, but as of right now we want to be a well known prominent staple in the Arizona Rock Scene. We’d love to be able to play to big crowds, and connect with lots of people. Our biggest goal is to get our music in front of anyone and everyone we can. To anyone that wants to connect and develop a friendship, connection, or the like. We love what we do, and we want to keep doing it. Music has always been a safe place for each of us individually, and together we feel even more connected.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Being a grunge band in the 90s must have been some of the most incredible experiences ever. I mean every time we revisit any of the big albums of that era we fall in love all over again. To be able to dive into that world and emulate that emotion again is the true hope. There’s something about that music that makes nostalgia feel current in the moment rather than a looking back at a time type nostalgia. We hope when people hear our music they get transported back to that time, but with a certain this is happening right now feeling.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I think romping around the city with a band is always a chaotic and fun time. Main staples would be Tacos Veganos, Ziggys Pizza, Crescent Ballroom, Gracies, The Rebel Lounge, and Valley Bar. See some shows, eat some food, and if there’s time go check out Superstition or Sedona.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We have a huge amount of support from those that have been with us from Day 1 and even those who see us for the first time. We want to shoutout Arizona for real. But especially Dreamcast, Troubled Minds, Skin Ticket, One Life Taken, The Executed, Kiss Your Bros, 707s, Psyko Steve and Crew, Zach Rippy at Sound Signal Audio, Jorge at Junglepop, and anyone that has been with us since we were in previous bands, that has been on the journey with us through it all.
