We had the good fortune of connecting with Gene Natali and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Gene, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
At Troutwood, we see an opportunity to empower individuals with the financial “know-how” historically reserved for individuals and families with a “minimum net worth,” or level of wealth. Troutwood represents the intersection of financial planning and technical aptitude that will fuel a decade of unprecedented growth in the financial advisory industry. As we sit today, there are more non-investors, than investors in the United States. This pendulum has already begun to swing, and the pillars for long-term financial success will be knowledge, planning and confidence.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
With Troutwood, 100% of people can now build a Personal Financial Plan for a career, lifestyle and financial goal of their choosing. Our software than helps guide that individual to that financial goal. The power of a plan, can’t be understated in any setting. Built correctly, a plan defines where you want to go, how to get there and what to do as events occur along the way.

Money is a BIG source of stress at home, work and the communities within which we live. By shining a light on what’s possible with a financial plan, we hope to not only build better financial outcomes, but meaningfully reduce some of that stress. I’m proud of the positive emotion we see from our customers, the capability, character and persistence of our team and of the impact the Troutwood App can have on society.

It wasn’t easy to get where we are, but the mistakes we made along the way, are now a competitive advantage. Lesson learned include:

(1) Continually move forward.
(2) Listen and learn at every step.
(3) It takes great people to build great products and it takes great products to make great companies.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
When it comes to quality time together, the best itinerary is having no itinerary. The right setting(s) create purposeful conversation and meaningful relationships. One example is a multi-day canoe trip. You know you’ve got to get from Point A to Point B, A campfire or quiet place to catch up and disconnect is also hard to beat.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Countless people have played important roles in my personal growth and professional journey. Unarguably, my parents have played the largest role and have done so for the longest time. I’m grateful for their love and support.
