We had the good fortune of connecting with Gigi Connection and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Gigi, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?

We are five women (Gigi Lori, Gigi Susie, Lala Malana, Mimi Jackie and Nana Alison) that have been great friends for decades, raising our children together in Arizona and now having common ground in becoming grandparents together. Throughout our many years of friendship, we shared our favorite products, recipes, beauty tips, things to do, craft ideas, vacation spots, etc. with each other. So when we all became grandmas, it was natural for us to lean on each other for advice, items to buy for our new grandchildren, things to do with them and how to best take advantage of this new stage in our lives. After all, these grandchildren of ours have stolen our hearts and we wanted to not only love and spoil them but to be great role models for them.

It was at a spa day at Desert Ridge Marriott in December of 2019 that we began
seriously talking about starting a grandma blog. We were brainstorming as to what we wanted our blog to look like and convey. We wanted our blog to have several topics on it as it related to grandparenting and for our blog to be the “go-to source for grandmas”. We were all extremely excited but we didn’t know where to start so the idea sat for a while as we contemplated a name for our blog. Because of our strong connection to each other, we knew we wanted to extend and ultimately share that same connection with all the grandmas out there. It was unanimous and feeling like the name Gigi
Connection was just waiting to be born, we had the name for our blog!

However, it was mid-March, 2020 when Gigi Susie’s trip to New Zealand to see her daughter got cancelled due to covid restrictions that the wheels were set in motion. We all realized that if her trip was cancelled due to covid restrictions that many other families did as well. At the beginning of covid when there was a lock down and not many people were getting out of their homes, we realized that there were other grandmas that could not be with their families as well and were alone. We wanted to connect with all of them, give them encouragement and hopefully make them smile when they read our blog. April 3, 2020 was when our first Gigi Connection blog post was shared.

We had a lot to learn. All five of us ladies were so new at writing, learning the technical issues in and out and brainstorming on topics we felt were relevant to write about. Our first order of business was to pick our categories and design our website.

We came up with these five categories:

• Read (books for your grandchildren and yourself)
• Eat (recipes for your grandchildren and your family)
• Play (activities: toys, crafts and things to do with your grandchildren)
• Love (faith, family, friendships, marriage)
• Beauty (self-care and wellness)

Throughout our first year of blogging, we learned so much about ourselves, the
determination we had to keep going even when we were the “blind leading the blind”, learning about SEO, keywords, social media and to encourage and inspire other women our ages to try something they’ve never tried before. After our first year, we decided to add a category that has been widely popular: Our 5 Favorite Things. This category has evolved too and we write about our favorite items each month. These things could be a nail polish, favorite beauty product, something for your grandchild, something to buy your best girlfriend, items for your home, things to put into an Easter Basket, favorite soup recipes, kitchen items, television shows, etc.

We just celebrated our 2nd year anniversary and we look forward to growing and
connecting with our followers.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
We want to empower and encourage women of all ages as we share, from our hearts, topics relating to: health, beauty, fashion, reading, cooking, faith in God, travel and the joys of aging gracefully as we live life to the fullest with our family, friends and adoring grandchildren.

We are not the stereotypical grandmas of years past. We are a group of women that are successful at: real estate, floral design, home design, photography and a former NFL cheerleader. We are Gigi’s, Lala’s, Mimi’s and Nana’s that are connected with our grandchildren, our family, our faith and taking care of ourselves.

Our greatest hope is that with almost 200 collective years of marriage wisdom, 20 grandchildren between us (newborns to adolescents) and friendships lasting since 1989, our blog encourages our readers in their friendships, their relationships, their faith and in this wonderful journey called grandparenting.

Currently ranked #35 in top grandma blogs, our readers are not only grandmas, but singles, moms, young adults and even men. Men are looking for what to buy for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Christmas, birthdays, etc. We have great gift ideas that we love sharing with all of our readers.

Not only do we want to be the “go-to source for grandmas”, we want you to think of us as your best girlfriends coming to us to find the latest, greatest and tried recipes, products and advice. We have evolved into not only a blog for grandmas but as a lifestyle blog for many. It is not only our dream, but our plan is to continue growing our blog in order to connect with many others. We look forward to partnering with other businesses that we believe in and feel our followers would love and benefit from, as well.
