We had the good fortune of connecting with Grace & Matt @theggoldenroad and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Grace & Matt, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
When we decided that we wanted to Walk Across America last year we knew that we had to make some decisions. We decided that we wanted to live an unconventional lifestyle and any risks that go along with that. The first thing that we had to do was sell everything that we owned. We sold our cars, our clothes, pretty much all of our material items. We had two goals in our mind and it was to raise funds and awareness for Time In A Bottle while we walked across America, and to create content that would inspire others to live whatever life they want. The risks that we took led us to where we are today. We now live in a converted school bus and we are spending at least 30 days in each of the 50 states exploring and helping out local nonprofits. When you take risks you are forced into uncomfortable situations and you can handle those one of two ways. You can step down or you can take control. You CAN create your own life but you HAVE to take risks.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Our art is spreading joy and happiness. Through sharing our everyday life, we hope to inspire others to travel, explore and find love in the little things. We know that a lot of people don’t have the opportunity for adventure and travel, and we hope that by sharing our experiences, everyone is able to come along for the ride. There is a lot of bad in this world, but we believe that most people are good and we are out to show the world how much good there actually is!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If it was us, we would say load up your car with camping gear and head down to the Chiricahua National Monument. Pack up that cooler because you’re cooking this week! Don’t forget your hiking boots, you are not going to want to miss hikes around these beautiful rock formations. There is 17 miles of hiking trails that takes you through some of the most extraordinary rocks we have ever seen. The campground at the base of the park is so relaxing and peaceful, it will almost feel like you aren’t even in Arizona! The mix of foliage, rocks and wild animals you may see makes it out of this world. Looking for a day trip from there? Drive over to the Whitewater Draw in the winter and see over 20,000 migrating sand hill cranes. Make sure you stay until sunset to witness the birds flying in packs over you! You will be able to feel the energy and it is sure to put a smile on your face. Still have a couple days left in the week? Make the 30 minute drive over to Tombstone, where legendary cowboys like Wyatt Earp and Doc Holiday once roamed the streets. There is a $10 free camping area right below the city, which puts you in walking distance to all the excitement including the historic courthouse and the O.K. Corral where the historic gunfight took place.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We wouldn’t be able to do what we do without the support of our family and friends on our social platforms. It is because of them that we have been able to share our story on such a large scale and in return share the story of others.
