We had the good fortune of connecting with Haili Copeland and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Haili, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I’d say the most important factor behind my success would be my mindset. Believing in myself has been the number one thing to help me and my brand succeed. I know it sounds crazy, but if you walk around telling yourself “My work isn’t good, why would someone hire me?” you’re going to manifest just that. Instead, try saying “My work is amazing, why wouldn’t someone hire me?”. Positivity is key and has always been so important to me.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I photograph couples, weddings, families, portraits, etc. My goal with my work is to captivate emotions. When someone looks at my photos, I want them to be able to feel the exact emotions I was feeling while photographing my subject. I’ve been passionate about photography since the first time I touched a camera.
I’m excited for what’s to come in the next few years. I have been so focused on learning the business aspect of photography and I can finally say I’ve got the hang of it. It wasn’t easy to get to where I’m at with my business, but with faith and hard work, anything is possible. Investing in yourself and your business is a major factor. I switched my mindset from “I know it all” to “There is always room to grow and learn more.”
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting, the first place we would go would have to be Enroute Coffee and Tea House. It’s my favorite coffee shop, they’re amazing. On certain days The Fork AZ sells their food at Enroute, they make THE BEST food. So I would definitely take my best friend to get one of their Frenchie sandwiches.
Then we’d go to Downtown Phoenix. Lately, I’ve been liking walking around downtown Phoenix near the boutiques and Churchill. If you haven’t heard of Churchill, it’s a great open spot to hang out. It’s all outdoors but all covered. There’s mutiple little food, drinks, and shopping all in churchill.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shoutout to my husband, Ricky Lance. I was working a day job right before I opened my own business, and I was having a really rough time at work. There was one day I came home in tears beyond upset with my job. My husband sat me down and said “Quit your job, open your own business, do what you love and you will succeed.” At first, I was shocked, it sounded too good to be true, and I’ll admit I was scared. I was scared to take the jump, I was scared to fail. But with the help and support of Ricky, I was able to start up my own photography business, and have been doing photography full time ever since.
