We had the good fortune of connecting with Haley Winter and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Haley, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I decided to pursue an artistic and creative career because I fell in love with the freedom it provides. Having been in the hair industry for 8 years, I’ve built quite a portfolio for myself, so my customers come in trusting I’ll be able to fulfill their vision. I have a direction, and I am given free reign to create and bring that to life. Working with my hands, and having an immediate satisfying end result is fulfilling for me. I didn’t even know that was they type of work I needed to be in until I was there. My passion and artistic ability brings joy and confidence to the people I serve, and that for me is the best compensation.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is in hair. It is the canvas I paint, and shape. I feel I’m set apart from others by being able to take their vision and interpret and customize my techniques to fulfill their desires. I get the most excited when I get a bright fun bold color to work on. Like red heads. They are my FAVORITE. I got to the position I am by learning from others. I started as an assistant at a high end salon, and have spent many hours learning from others far more experienced than me. It wasn’t easy. Some styles took me years to perfect, and I will never consider myself too good for more education. I’ve made a lot of mistakes with clients, but have learned to be humble and own my mistakes to fix whatever issues came up. Doing so has built trust and confidence with my clientele. I want the world to know that there is more to hair than just a pair of scissors. We put actual blood sweat and tears into our work. We lose sleep over a bad appointment. We cry with you when you’re hurting, and we celebrate your accomplishments with genuine joy. We do all we do for our clients, and our families. We are probably one of the most selfless industries out there, and we love every minute of it.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My favorite spots start in downtown phx. Specifically Roosevelt row on first Friday. Dinner, entertainment, and art are all right there. Then finish the night off with Novel icecream filled donuts!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
When I started my career, I was only motivated by myself. I didn’t get the drive and determination for success and more, until I had more than myself to look after. So I credit the drive and passion I have to my daughters. Having Leyna, Adaline, and Maisie made me realize that I wanted not only to provide for them, but show them what can be achieved with your own two hands. They are my driving force for all things in life, and they are the purest joy for me. Everything I do, I do for them. I love you girls. Thank you for inspiring me
