We had the good fortune of connecting with Hannah Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Hannah, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Work life balance is probably one of the most important aspects of my life and mental health. I claim myself as an empath so it is easy to take work home. In college, I was taught what a “third space” was. Your third space could be your gym, a small group you meet with, a hobby etc etc. For me, I found that my third space is a handful of things and has changed over time through different seasons. In college I dove deep into youth ministry mentoring girls two to three times a week. Post college I found the importance of fueling and taking care of my body through outlets like hiking or taking workout classes and now, while I still engage in physical activity, I found it is so important to have a core group of people to share life with. A community where you can lay your self down has been a game changer for me. Being able to disconnect from my work, which is so valuable in itself, and engage each other at a deep and meaningful level has fueled an intense level of balance in my day to day.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
By degree, I am a non profit leader in management but by opportunity I am a beginner in digital and print marketing. While this season of Covid-19 has brought an immense amount of uncertainty and unsettled feelings, I have been given an opportunity to dive into the marketing world in our companies. I left my previous job in search for a marketing opportunity to gain experience and learn something new. While Unicorn Philanthropy gives me these opportunities on a small scale, working under the MDSkin Lounge realm brings a whole new set of skills. Skills I had been seeking. It was exciting to be asked if I wanted to join the team under a new position. I have learned so much about myself, other people and their working styles, new design programs and much more. I feel I have just scratched the surface. I feel my willingness to learn and understand sets me apart from others. I want others to know that it is ok to not know everything. There is a sweet feeling of being a rookie in a new trade.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
What an excellent question! Being a native Phoenician, I have a pretty good grip on the city and surrounding cities. I love Phoenix and there is SO much to see and do. I would have to take them to Postino for their infamous bruschetta board. Everyone comes into town hungry right?I love downtown Phoenix just to walk around and see what is happening down there whether its a ball game or getting drinks at Hanny’s. As much as I love Phoenix I would spend a lot of time up in northern Arizona hiking in Sedona or visiting Flagstaff for the weekend. Arizona has it all!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My goodness, where do I even begin? Of course my friends, family and fiance are all to be given huge recognition in my success through encouragement and real gut-punching-life-giving conversations. I have recently dove into a book that encourages you to dream big! Without dreaming big, I don’t think that I would have taken the opportunities that I do have! A huge shout out to my mentors at work for taking the chance on me and allowing me to grow and be teachable in new areas. (Thank you Sherri!)
