We had the good fortune of connecting with Heather Zigler and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Heather, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.

Buying a one-way airline ticket, flying to a new country days later with no plans and little knowledge about the country itself. Not knowing what is going to happen from one moment to the next. Not being controlled by an agenda, but rather, being in tune with what moves your heart and soul. Being present in the moment and deciding freely what experience you would like next….

The desire for this type of freedom is what drove me to circumnavigate the globe with my then 12 year old daughter. One-way tickets, no plans, an appreciation for the simple things, and an allowance for opportunities to fall into place with an open heart, created a serendipitous journey for the two of us.

My experience has taught me that throwing yourself into the unknown can be VERY rewarding. It forces your soul to come alive by fully surrendering to all expectations that you and others have ever had of yourself. It means that you allow yourself to start anew and to FEEL completely free. Things don’t go wrong; they just take you into a new direction. Learning to throw yourself into the unknown is all about learning to listen to your intuition. In a society where we tend to look to outsiders for advice, we’ve learned to ignore our inner voice. It was my inner voice that safely took me across this globe and from pole to pole, without knowing a soul or even having a plan in place.

When you have a gut instinct about something, TRUST it and follow it.

It takes a lot of work in terms of personal development, until you can be at a point where you experience a peace of mind, because your mind is no longer confined by things that make you think and worry too much. When you learn to understand and accept things as they are, instead of trying to make things “right” because “right” is very subjective, you will feel free because nothing is holding you back mentally and emotionally.

Most of us think of failing when we think of throwing ourselves into the unknown – quitting our jobs, moving somewhere new, and starting anew. However, life has a way of leading you to where you’re supposed to go when you listen to it. One event always leads to another. Although some may seem like disappointments, sadness, and rejections at the time, time will prove to you that whatever happened was meant to happen. Time will give you the reason as to why things changed. In order to be able to achieve the most out of life, you need to get into the flow of life. And you can only achieve that when you throw yourself into the unknown, surrender and listen to your heart and soul.

In the beginning, if you grew up letting your brain lead your life, you might not feel comfortable at first. It may feel foreign to you. Everyone has their own respective journey of what they are manifesting in life. Focus on your desires, and trust that if you pay attention to what you want, it will happen exactly as it’s supposed to. You might realize that you must go back to the root of your soul, to your talents and passion without being held back by dogma, societal norms, your own fears, and external opinions. The path is never clearly laid out, but we get clues along the way. But you have to be willing to look for them. Do not give up when the end result isn’t happening as quickly as you may want it to. Look at it as a treasure hunt and enjoy the thrill of the hunt along the way.

I know there are many of you out there that are ready to take your own leap of faith and are not doing it because you are scared out of your mind. This is me lighting a fire underneath you. Follow your heart and do it! Because no matter what decision you end up making, the ones your heart wanted that you didn’t end up following, are the ones that you will regret the most in life.

What should our readers know about your business?

For centuries sailors needed a lodestar to guide them through the darkness of night. Now more than ever people are looking for a brighter way. A different way.

Without a map, it is too easy to get lost, deluded, confused, and discouraged along the way. You need a guide who can give you the right directions, the necessary encouragement, and help you avoid the clutches of the ego. Someone who has already traveled the paths, learned the byroads, and blazed trails that have never been walked before.

I offer guidance for finding your true, authentic path through life. An example of what true personal transformation and rebirth look like in human form, I am an experienced guide for you.

I am here to humbly use, and share, my inspiring collection of ancient wisdom, personal stories, and the sage advice that I’ve gained through my experience and reflection as an explorer, writer, coach, and motivational speaker.

As a facilitator for those seeking a different truth and greater meaning, I share my deeply personal experience of how I overcame obstacles to accomplish my dreams. I combine Eastern and Western ancient teachings, with a little science, and sprinkle some magic on top to bring you truly unique and original experiences.

This is an invitation to step out from your ordinary life and take the first steps on your own quest for greater understanding and deeper transformation.

You can join me online, attend a workshop / retreat or bring me to your business, school or event to speak.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love how diverse Arizona is and would have to try and treat it like a buffet. Offering a small taste and samples along the way, as we raced about the State. I would start with a combination of outdoor adventure and urban sophistication. It would be so easy to pile our plates with hikes in the red rocks, alpine forests and of course, the Grand Canyon. Something everyone has to see to truly appreciate. Drive across the desert to indulge in a spa day after our adventures and get a fantastic meal with local wine. Yes, Arizona makes wine, why does that surprise everyone? Take a step back in time and maybe hit up a little Route 66 nostalgia, watch a wild west reenactment, or tour the ancient ruins of American Indian sites. Yes, our plates would overflow with experiences, leaving them with an unforgettable appetite that will have them coming back for seconds.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?

Childhood Friends. School Friends. Neighborhood Friends. Work Friends. Travel Friends. Boyfriends. Each friendship offers something totally unique and irreplaceable. And each friendship in my life ultimately has helped make me who I am today. Without them, I would not be me.

Friendship isn’t about who you’ve known the longest, it’s about who walked into your life, said “I’m here for you,” and proved it. A strong friendship doesn’t need daily conversations or being together. As long as the relationship lives in the heart, true friends never part. Therefore, near or far, our friends hold a special place in our hearts forever. I have friends that understand my past. Others that believe in my future and many that struggle to accept me for the way I am today.

Long nights of laughing at what seems like nothing and everything, the pep talks, the ego checks. Crazy shenanigans, the extra effort to create memories for a lifetime, endless adventures. Listening to me or simply sitting with me in silence when it was needed most. Tears. Rages. Never failing to slap me in the face with reality when I need or deserve it. Making sacrifices to give a helping hand when it’s obvious that I can’t do it on my own.

I wander along with an attitude of openness and acceptance that invites new friends and experiences everywhere I go. Sometimes I’m overwhelmed by emotion and my eyes fill with tears when I think about it. Something that I am unable to identify. But it is a strange and powerful feeling. An unexplainable spark of life. I ooze freedom and seek awareness. Giving a little piece of who I am to everyone that I meet. It is as if they receive fresh hope and in return, I am renewed. A very fair trade.

People have been placed throughout my life to help me along this journey. To help me with my educational path, my emotional path, my social path, my career path and to guide me to help when I don’t know how to help myself. Support that allows me to carve out my own path despite the fears.

I guess what I’m getting at.
I get by with a little help from my friends.
