We had the good fortune of connecting with Holly Cook and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Holly, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
Eating disorders have the second highest mortality rate amongst all mental health disorders. My hope in my practice at Dedicated Recovery and Consulting LLC, to reach the Arizona community in providing collaborative care for those struggling with food concerns and behaviors, and to decrease the affects of traumatic life events. Additionally, I operate a free resource website for those looking for eating disorder providers in Arizona. Eating disorders are never simply an eating disorder, there’s often something else contributing to the disorder whether it’s trauma or depression. My aim to help provide my clients both athletes and non-athletes with a space to process difficult or uncomfortable emotions.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Getting to where I am today was no easy task, but I’d do it the same all over again if I had to. I dropped out of my doctorate of physical therapy in 2012, worked as a personal trainer post drop out and remembered my goal all along was to be a counselor and I continued to run into training client’s doing interesting things with food and exercise. Upon graduating with my masters, I worked in residential care for adolescents with eating disorders, all the while striving to work with athletes with eating concerns. I look at my three years working in the highest level of care as a medical residency, it equipped me with a lifetime of knowledge and connections/friendships to aid in my efforts to start an outpatient practice focusing on the treatment of eating disorders, trauma, and athletes with eating disorders. I am passionate about recovery, injury prevention, and helping people find themselves.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The adventures would include: taking them to hike trail 202 in Phoenix, a day trip to Jerome to eat at the Haunted Hamburger and see the history and views of Jerome, a trip to the barn in Scottsdale to take a horseback riding lesson in reining, and my backyard to eat yummy meals we cook together, play with my dogs, eat at Pizza Heaven, and if there’s time see the Grand Canyon.
