Meet Ilyse Kusch | Interior Designer with IK Interiors LLC

We had the good fortune of connecting with Ilyse Kusch and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ilyse, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I believe in taking a risk. If it weren’t for me taking a risk to starting my company in 2008 I wouldn’t be where I am today. I’ve worked hard at building my client base with referrals and taking on the hospitality world of design. Not only do I design residential I took the risk most recently and have taken on hospitality design. Graduating college and starting up my company was a big risk to take, most interior designers start their career by working for a firm first. I did not, I went for it and had the best support system behind me. It always helps to have others around you pushing you and cheering you on for your success.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I design with distinction, creating unique experiences designed to inspire, while maximizing the possibilities of each space. I will reveal a home’s hidden potential. When it comes to design, I focus on the homes or the hotels environment and architecture to best curate the interior of the spaces. When building from the ground up on a new build the environment is very important to the design as well as where the dwelling will be positioned. I was inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright and the foundation he taught with architecture and design. I studied Frank Lloyd Wright in school and further as I graduated, bring this into my practice has taught me so much and I am forever learning about design from others as well as myself. I believe the day you stop learning is the day you are done with design.
Design is always evolving and moving with the times. But besides that, the challenges in starting my own firm was how to juggle all the moving parts and time management. I learned to use a business coach as well as great networking groups to connect with the right people to learn the best practices of time management and scheduling.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When I have friends in town visiting, I like to have then stay at the Arizona Biltmore Hotel. Building on the legacy of Frank Lloyd Wright’s architectural style, the Arizona Biltmore has been transformed into a resort of innovative delight. Updated with a chic edge of its very own, the Biltmore is for those seeking elegant adventures beautifully wrapped in a level of personalized service and attention to detail. I love having dinner at the hotel at the Renata’s Hearth. It has a beautiful presentation of food and drinks. One of the days they would be in town to visit we would take a day drive up to Sedona to see the breath-taking views of the red rock mountains and go hiking on the trails and see the river. There are so many beautiful places to eat there too.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My parents, my kids, and my whole family and friends have always been a great support system for me and my business. They are always there cheering me on and keep me going through the good days and bad days.
