We had the good fortune of connecting with Jack Hanks and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jack, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
That Public Adjusters even exist… It’s amazing how few people know what we do. When a disaster or accident damages your property, as a policyholder, you will be assigned a claims adjuster by your carrier, whose job is to look out for the carrier’s best interests. A public adjuster is the policyholder’s advocate. We understand how to work with carriers and document the full extent of a property loss to get our clients a fair and just settlement according to the insurance policy they’ve been paying for.

What should our readers know about your business?
It’s been quite the ride with VPA (Velocity Public Adjusting). What’s unique about us? We treat this work like a business, not just a job. That mindset took us from zero to four million in fees in just three years. It’s all about the people I work with and the process we’ve built together.

Challenges? Absolutely. Had to shut down my first business to get here. That was tough, but it taught me heaps—like the importance of bringing on the right people who know more than I do and keeping things transparent.

What gets me excited these days beyond my business is being the Chairman of the Board for a non-profit called United Claims Professionals (UCP). We’re uniting claims professionals across industry lines and coming together to promote greater transparency, accountability, and equity in the claims process. Our work is driving positive change and setting new standards of excellence in the claims industry.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend were in town, we’d kick off the week at Mastro’s—can’t beat their steak. We’d spend an evening at The Living Room for drinks; the vibe there is top-notch for catching up. Then, it’s all about soaking up the local flavor: spring training games for the sports buzz, Old Town for a slice of history and charm, and the high energy of Suns games. North Scottsdale is our go-to for dining; the culinary scene is just unbeatable. And no visit is complete without Top Golf—it’s a hit for some friendly competition. Throughout the week, it’s about the places where you can feel the pulse of the city, the spots that make you want to stay a little longer.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Huge shoutout to the team at VPA—couldn’t have asked for a better crew, with a special mention to Doug for keeping our operations sharp. Also, I want to give a nod to the entire community at United Claims Professionals. It’s amazing to see us all step up to make a real difference in the industry. And of course, none of this would be possible without my family—my fiancé, Kim, and my kids. They’re my foundation and the reason I strive to do better every day.
