We had the good fortune of connecting with Heather & Ken Davis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Heather & Ken, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
We love the culture that food encompasses. Family and community dining is something that we are up with and have a lot of fond memories of growing up. Being able to bring that warm feeling of meeting new friends and reconnecting with old ones is something we hold close to our hearts. For us, BBQ creates that environment and drove us to want to share that with our local community.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Being a successful business owner is all about adaptation, always learning and growing with your team. Although there are a lot of great times, as with anything there are challenges. Don’t feel afraid to ask for help, whether it just be for advice or realizing that you need a larger staff to grow. Although there are a lot of tasks that as owners you can do on your own decide whether those tasks or jobs are the most efficient use of your time or if someone else can do them better. Flyin’ K BBQ & Field to Fire catering is a locally owned food truck and catering company that has grown with the support of our team and community. We focus on locally sourcing ingredients and supporting our community while serving some amazing wood smoked entrees.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We have some of the best food culture in the valley! First stop would be The Crepe Bar and a stroll through the farmers markets, Random AF Kitchen pop-up for some Birria grilled cheese, tacos or ramen, down over to Mingo’s Louisiana Kitchen for some amazing cajun food or to a great food truck event like First Friday at the Post is Arcadia. Deserts go-to is always Frosted Frenzy or Churro Go-Nutz. If they were wanting to grab a drink we would stop at Old Ellsworth Brewing Company!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We have met a lot of amazing people along the way of our journey. Our food truck community is a strong one and has some of the hardest working, most passionate individuals we have ever met. Family is everything and we are fortunate to have an amazing one, supporting us each step of the way. There are also several amazing valley Chefs that have mentored us and given us guidance and support. Chef Jeff Kraus has been a beacon of light and support since the beginning and we are very grateful for his positivity and motivation he still continues to share.
