We had the good fortune of connecting with Jacquese Silvas and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jacquese, so given that most of us are stuck at home due to the crisis, we’ve been asking folks about what they’ve enjoyed doing during quarantine. We’d love to hear what your favorite thing to do has been.
Quarantine/Covid-19 life has been full of emotions as if being forced on a roller coaster going at an uncontrollable speed, climbing, dipping, and making lots of sharp turns! I had a whole plan for 2020, and just like that, I found myself seeing through lenses that were uncertain and confusing. It was just a matter of changing the view. I’ve been reinventing and restructuring my world to keep it moving and thriving despite the struggle of the situation, and all of the unknowns! My busy time comes from working on growing a new business, continuing all my professional obligations online, and trying to expand on what I currently do as fitness professional. I’ve added a little adventure to the mix on some days, getting out for really long walks (before the heat) at the beginning, to jumping in the car for a drive to the lake, Sedona, the mountains – happy places to keep the memory making alive, and to change the scenery of mundane walls of my home! I don’t have a one favorite thing that I’ve done during quarantine, but it has allowed me to sit still more often. I’ve enjoyed reading a few more books, more than my usual one a week, and have participated in a lot of online education. I think that may be a highlight actually, teaching and also being a student – – on webinars or live! Zoom is now a staple – lots and lots of technology use to stay in touch with all corners of our world!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m in the business of “people” and “community.” What sets me apart from others is my passion to potentially inspire and empower! It’s about practices that really bring a quality of life that create sustainability, self-efficacy, and dignity! Two huge things that have my adrenaline going: JACS Figure On Fit, POWR’d, LLC, and my online athleisure wear app, SAVVI! I had to do a quick pivot to take JACS online, forced by the quarantine! In addition to what I was previously doing in person, I’ve added another opportunity for people, an online Barre class – this was not in the plan! And POWR’d, a new online business that launched on Valentine’s Day, 2020 – partnered with my fit sister/business partner, Jennifer Taylor! POWR’d is your ultimate “personalized” fitness program that is focused on some psychology components, eating for health, exercise, and commUNITY! We’ve put a lot of heart and soul into this. It is not like any other program that you’re going to see online; we’re working on phase two; we’re constantly improving what we have to offer! The road to JACS Figure On FIT and the road to POWR’d have been propelled by intentional practices that are full of action, learning, taking risks, and continuous self-improvement. Many pieces had to be put together: planning, recruiting the right partners, finding the right platform, budgeting, monitoring performance, legal compliances, and of course the main reason to do this: fulfill a dream of bringing health wealth to the masses. It’s an ongoing challenge to run a business; it’s never going to be a smooth road – deliberate action to grow the business is how both continue to thrive. You have to remain a learner as well as being a leader, and driver. Sharing successes, obstacles, challenges and doing a lot of networking really keeps the energy and drive at full speed! Both brands are from a heart for people!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My BFF, Lynda, well, we’ve done so much over a thirty-six year old friendship that a week long trip now may be to a place to plop down and do absolutely nothing, yet everything! Some of our best trips were on the road, me driving, her as the DJ! If this trip was now, after all the quarantining and social distancing: we’d start with a jaunt to Sedona (my favorite place) to enjoy some of the best views ever (no matter where you go), a place of peace and chill time and good food (Elote Cafe)! Then it’d be off to Lake Havasu, Lynda’s favorite place – boat rides with us chillin’ would definitely be a thing for us to experience (we’ve done this before, and we like what we like)! Her house is our haven – watching sunrises from her back porch! And after that, we may just jet over to Temecula, CA to have some fun family time with my parents, and eat them out of a house and home! Laugh a lot. Notice, lots of eating! The drive back to AZ, to my house, would include a straight through, let’s get home and sit in the heat – because that’s just how we roll.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I love shoutouts, and I could go on and on about who has been pushing me on, running behind me, beside me, and in front of me . . . filling me up with inspiration! Who has NOT had a hand in what I perceive as success – I am so thankful to so many people, organizations, and mentors; there’s not enough space to fill up my appreciation and thankfulness. Shout out to Jean & Harvey Council, my parents, my first mentors, my forever cheerleaders, my world! They created the rock solid foundation to springboard from – total air to my wings! And a shoutout to my family peeps for so much encouragement, contribution, and confidence boosting – much deep-rooted love and belief in me: Robert (hubby who gives so much of himself to me), Erica (my daughter, my friend), Jenni (my sister, another rock solid cheerleader in my corner), Lynda (a sister/friend who continually pumps me up), Geoff (my entrepreneur cousin who shares the struggles)! Organizations: GCI, Savvier, FitnessFest, MASHUP, Athleta, Wanderlust, Seton – these organizations have contributed to multiplying favor upon my life, expanding my view, and have trusted me to be part of their community! The people behind the names of these places have given me opportunities that keep on giving! Friends/Mentors: So many who believe in me, challenge me, and who really get me. Their unwavering support, love, and friendship matter: Dr. Mary Tatum Chappell (non-stop belief & constant boosts), my JACS tribe (wow – you all have been living my journey with me, so many of you), Dana Sweatt (you’ve supported everything I do), Jennifer Taylor (meeting you was meant to be), Morag Mcquarie (always a supporter), Karen Matte (this girl, her love is big), Rachel Miller (inspiration to me & so there when I’ve needed you), Althea Jones (your beautiful texts), and a shoutout to many, many fit pros who help me grow – just too many people to name! A shout out to one person would be just wrong – that village thing, it’s real! And VoyagePhoenix, a shout out to you for knocking on my door a third time.
