Meet Jada Calaman | Portrait & Wedding Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jada Calaman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jada, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I have always wanted to become my own boss. I fell into Photography accidentally believe it or not. Three years ago I had the opportunity to do a couples model call for one of my photographer friends. Little did I know that this would be a blessing in disguise. During the session, it made me love myself so much more and got me out of my comfort zone. Knowing how I felt, being in front of the camera that day, made me want to provide other Women with that same experience. Transitioning from being in front of the camera, to behind the camera was the best decision I’ve made. It honestly fills my heart knowing that I am able to make people feel beautiful and capture lifelong memories they can cherish.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a Tucson Based Portrait and Wedding Photographer. I first started capturing forever moments for couples and families. I knew I wanted to provide an experience where their pictures remind them of how that moment felt. Without my clients trust and support I honestly wouldn’t be where I am today. Having a business does not come easy, and you will face many obstacles throughout your journey. I think it all comes down to how you’re able to get through it and continue pushing through. I try to keep a positive mindset and encourage myself daily. I am always looking for ways to better my craft and further my knowledge to be able to create a better experience for my clients. A lesson I’ve learned would have to be that patience is key. You may not get it the first day, but if you keep practicing you’ll eventually get there.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting I’d take them on a hike to start our day. Getting up early and feeling the sun on my skin has been refreshing and helps me motivate me. I’d make sure to visit all of my favorite local places, whether it be food, crafts or even attend a social hangout. Some places we’d have to check out would be Rollie’s, The Monica, or even Barnes and Noble. Hiking has easily become one of my favorite things to do, especially waterfall chasing after it rains.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Absolutely! I would love to give a huge shoutout to one of my biggest supporters, my wife Jaylin. I can always count on her to encourage me when I’m feeling doubtful, and support my crazy ideas. She pushes me to be a better version of myself, and I’m super grateful to have her in my corner rooting for me.
My second shoutout would be to my friend, Destiny. She’s brought me out of my comfort zone, made me love myself and made me see how talented I am. She’s been a great support system from my learning, to giving me advice, or to random girls trips just to fill our creative buckets.
Lastly, to all my family and friends. You deserve your flowers because I wouldn’t be where I am today without your support and encouragement.
To my clients , I am beyond grateful to all of you and wouldn’t be where I am today without you!
