We had the good fortune of connecting with Spenser Robinson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Spenser, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I originally started my business to protect myself from the many pitfalls that happen in the arts and music space. Publishing my art was my main goal but the more I learned about the industry and what was needed I started to feel my purpose extend into the digital space so I can help others navigate the digital world successfully. A few years as a freelancer taught me the needs of business owners which allowed me to understand what specifically my community needed in growing and maturing their businesses. I took my creative touch from art to study UX design principles and Web Development which added an extra elements to my publishing experience, it also allowed me the opportunity to meet fellow designers who were looking for an alternative design platform to scale their own businesses. Ever since then I’ve been on a mission to teach and develop my company as the foremost authority for digital growth in my community.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
BBM Publishing House is a digital think tank that is dedicated to rewriting the narrative of our community. We are unique because we offer unique solutions to the issues pertaining directly to the black and brown communities ability to grow the wealth they deserve. We believe we share content and create content that is relevant and meaningful to our audience. While also, pushing the limit in an industry that has kept creatives like myself stifled in positions that lack growth and diversity. We represent the creatives who stick to their guns and push through the fire, we’ve lasted by implementing strategies that has kept our clients happy and engaged in our process.

I’ve learned many lessons but one in particular is the importance of showing up. When you switch your mindset from employee to business owner, you have to remind yourself it’s on you and it’s in you, but showing up everyday even when you not feeling it will set you apart from so many others. That is something that I preach and hope people learn about me, I have been persistent in my goals and pushing towards the original vision I had for myself and my company.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m a local business supporter so I would take my friend to a local breakfast spot to enjoy some mimosas and good food. Then maybe take them to a nice hike in the mountains with some lunch so they can see the scenery of Arizona. I think the most exciting place to show someone is the Grand Canyon or the Red Canyon, both offer beautiful views and peaceful presence.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My parents have supported me from the beginning helping me financially and just simply giving me the advice I need at the right time. My parents have been the example I’ve needed to continue growing my business even through the slow times they have been there for me to lean on.
