We had the good fortune of connecting with Jake Swartzenberger and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jake, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
Consistency is the biggest thing for me. When we first launched our business and had no clients, I took time out of every day I could to work toward the business. I still put in consistent time every day and I maintain the same attitude, work ethic, growth, and love for the art as I always have. I also try to learn new things as often as I can. That is always a good habit for success.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have been making music since I was in high school but at that time I had much to learn about crafting a song. I now run a business with my partner by the name of SoulTech Audio doing recording, production, mixing, and mastering music as well as doing sound for live shows and film/TV.
Our production style is based on the idea of bringing old-school techniques and combining it with a new modern sound, creating a unique juxtaposition. Our studio is a hybrid of analog gear and digital gear creating that vintage-modern combo that pops in our records.
Being an artist and creating a business of it is no easy feat. It takes countless hours of working at it every day. It is still a growing process but with every project we take on we learn and advance.
Our live shows aim to promote underground/up-and-coming artists in hopes that we can all lift each other up and it has been an incredible experience so far.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
For a great view of the city I would say either Myra Canyon or a visit up to the suspension bridges at Kelowna Mountain are some of the best spots. Lois Lane is a really unique vintage shop that often catches my attention as well. For nightlife, I’m a fan of Leopold’s Tavern. Public jukebox, drinks, good food. There are little-known sandbar beaches that are great. There are so many little shops and hidden places that make for a great way to spend your time.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to recognize the incredible mentorship and friendship of the great Corey Bell. He has always been there to bring his experiences in the industry, running a business, mastering the skills, and maneuvering through the challenges, all with a sense of humor and cheery sass. Big thanks to Corey.
