We had the good fortune of connecting with Jamie Yost and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jamie, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
While in Massage Therapy school in 2003, I learned business skills that would serve to mold me into a successful entrepreneur. Although, little prepared me for longterm challenges like how to manage a high volume customer base while safeguarding my body against injury. This is the primary reason that I took up Ashiatsu as a new modality. Ashiatsu is a gravity assisted deep tissue barefoot technique that delivers comfortable, broad pressure to the muscles. This technique helped me to limit the wear and tear on my upper body while offering my clients the option for deep and effective bodywork. Never in a million years did I expect to be using my feet for Massage Therapy, but had I been close-minded to the idea, I would have never found a new niche that my clients and I love so much.
Receiving regular bodywork, practicing yoga and applying the law of attraction principles has also sustained my healing passion over the years. These tools have served as some of the best for success in my career.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My professional career has evolved over the years. My services have shifted from strictly Swedish and Deep Tissue to Body Treatments to Ashiatsu and Cupping Therapy. I continue to offer most of these services however, Ashiatsu is my favorite modality. I love to share what I’ve learned with colleagues, especially those who are beginning their self-employment journey. I didn’t expect to experience so much inner personal growth on the path of a small business owner, but I can certainly vouch for how humbling it has been. I am still learning and evolving everyday. Because there is so much personal growth on this path, I have become fascinated with how our emotions manifest in our physical bodies. Somatic Therapy has become a recent passion of mine and has ultimately led me to choose my business name accordingly, Mindful Bodywork. I am excited to study the topic further and incorporate it into my healing work.
What are you inspired by?
Since I’ve returned to Tucson in 2005, I’ve had the privilege of meeting so many talented bodyworkers with similar dedication and passion for healing as myself. I feel inspired when meeting a seasoned Massage Therapist of 20+ years who still works full time. They live a healthy lifestyle and still love their career. It motivates me to watch them thrive and succeed.
Believe it or not, receiving massages also inspires me! Every Massage Therapist has their own signature technique and style of bodywork. Sometimes, I experience a new skill and it encourages me to further my education in order to continue to offer the best results.
Most importantly, my inspiration is fueled by an incredible clientele who are committed to their health and have supported me over the years not only throughout an economic crisis, but a global pandemic. These loyal humans will always have a piece of my heart.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to Brenda Blakesley for inspiring me to take risks and grow.
