We had the good fortune of connecting with Jayy The Prodigy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jayy, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I chose to pursue an artistic career because it was an outlet for me. As someone who struggles with anxiety and depression music was a way to show the world who I was. You know you hear many artists describe the reasoning for starting their music career was because it was their saving grace and I am one of those people. I was bullied for about 12 years and became depressed as a kid. This caused me to be silent but also be fearful of being who I am. Music was a way to express the pain, the confusion, the trials and tribulations to the world. I’ve learned that I continue to pursue this career because I’ve learned that my story and my talent is a way to help people. While being a kid that was misunderstood and bullied I also found that my gift made me become a strong independent and self loving adult. I started being Jayy The Prodigy to inspire those kids or even adults that are afraid to express their pain or be who they are,. I just want people to know that they are not alone. Artistry is a beautiful way to show and express to the world, your song (story). So the reason I pursued an artistic career is to “inspire”. Music and singing is truly are career I will never stop until it’s time I have too.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am Jayy The Prodigy, an artist from Phoenix Arizona. I am a non-bianary singer songwriter who’s mission is to inspire. I started singing at the age of five and started performing in third grade. In 2018 I was fortunate enough to be casted at a local show called Glamourhood. This show was a weekly residency at a known bar called “Boycott”. After the show ended I started to do multiple shows throughout the state of Arizona and started to record original music as “Julio.”. During my introduction to the music industry I discovered a side of me I wanted to express. A stronger, fearless, emotional, and limit pushing alter ego named Jayy the Prodigy. Jayy is a Non-Bianary artist who isn’t afraid to bring fashion, beauty, and powerful vocals to the stage and forefront of the industry. While being JayyTheProdigy I was fortunate enough to be nominated for two awards at the 2019 AZMT Music Awards. I have performed at over 17 shows, casted on an upcoming reality show “Artist of the Valley”, recently was casted for a short film locally(more information coming), I was fortunate enough to be contacted this year from a major television competition and am releasing my first album called “Pisces” on November 27th. While being in this industry it was not easy due to a lot of barriers and people trying to bring you down but the key to those challenges is to never give up. People will create lies, you will hear “no” many times but that is the reason you go harder and never give up. The truth is always set free but also the talent will always be heard or seen. That’s one’ lesson, I’ve learned during this 3 year rollercoaster. The one thing I want people to know about my brand and story is to always be you and never give up. If I can make it through the storms, so can you.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Arizona is a beautiful state. I’d start with a trip to Sedona. Sedona is one of the most beautiful spots in Arizona. I would also go to “Selfie- World” in Scottsdale to take some fun pictures. I would go to “Third Story” down the street to enjoy some drinks and food. I then would walk down “Tempe town lake” to talk and let the food set. Then at night I’d go to “sazerac”. There are so many great things to try and one Instagram page I recommend checking out is “Welcome to Arizona”. I would try so much on that page.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to shout out a very important group of people in my life. I would like to shout out my mother Anna, my father Julio, my Tia‘s (Mona, Monica, Sandra and Angelica), my Nana Gloria, Josue Painter Valle, Derryc Johnson, Ashleigh Donahoo and God. These groups of people have inspired me in ways that I could not imagine. These people have pushed me to the limits and helped me discover who I wanted to be and what I wanted to do. In this group you will find strong individuals that have surpassed any trial that has been given to them. In my life I have faced the depths of hell but have been reminded that I have people that are like the light of the heavens. These people helped me realize that I’m not alone and that I could be bigger than what I wanted to be. These people are truly a strong army behind me and truly family.
