We had the good fortune of connecting with Jeff Senour and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jeff, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I think this is a great question since we seem to live in a world that appears fearful of so many things. I have spent my career flying aircraft professionally from Airlines, helicopters, jets, movie stunt flying among other things. I have over 29,000 hours logged and one thing I learned from Aviation is that life is full of risk. I learned a long time ago we can’t eliminate risk from our lives but we can mitigate risk by doing certain things. Everything we do has some form of risk. When we drive a car, get in an airplane, even so much as slipping in the shower, they all have risk so we can’t completely eliminate it. I think it’s important we teach our youth this concept because I see so many young people today so worried and fearful of so many things that we just can’t do anything about. I’m not saying we shouldn’t have fear at times but we have to realize there is always going to be something that can get us.
In Aviation I mitigate risk by doing certain things so that when I fly I know I did everything I could to make each flight a successful outcome. There is always a pre-flight walk around, checking the weather, making sure the maintenance is updated, checking how much fuel we need and if the weather is bad at our destination how much more do we need to proceed on to a new destination.
These are just a few things as Aviators we do to mitigate the risk. Every flight, every time we do these things as well as other items to make our flight the safest outcome it can be.
I personally don’t live in fear because I know that this life has an end. The average lifespan they say is around 80 years or about 30,000 days. Some get more, some get less but the most important thing is how we lived while we are here. What did we do for others, did we show kindness and forgiveness to others? On every gravestone there are two dates, the date we were born and the date we died with a dash in between.. No-one can escape this truth but what matters is how we spent our time here during that dash. Did we help others, volunteer, were we kind, things like that.
So to answer our question at hand of how I think about risk, I am definitely a person who will not let a little fear stop me from me from anything but I will always do my best to eliminate risk by proper preparation. I actually welcome risk in many journeys as I realize some of the most successful people in the world are people who along the way failed many times but picked themselves up and moved on to succeed.
I wrote a song with my rock band, Called To Serve called “Reach For The Sky”. It’s a message about becoming whomever you desire if you work hard enough for it. We must all strive to live our dreams and live each day with a special purpose and Reach For The SKy.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have two passions, Aviation and Music/Film. I am a career Pilot with over 29,000 hours logged. I am a Screen Actors Guild aerial film Pilot for the motion picture industry flying a modified Learjet for air to air photography as well as helicopters for film. I have worked on movies such as “True Lies”, “Executive Decision”, “Hot Shots”, “Silence Of The Lambs”, “Space Cowboys” to name a few as well as hundreds of commercials filming Boeing, McDonnell Douglas, Lockheed, Blue Angels, Thunderbirds and NASA aircraft. I am also a Singer/Songwriter and founded the rock band Called To Serve. We have performed shows across America to inspire people of all ages to live their dreams. Our third studio album was released last year in 2020 and we just finished performing at Soulfest in front of 10,000 people for a 3 day music festival.
I don’t feel like anyone special but rather on a journey to inspire others. I have worked hard to achieve what I have done and love to pass on to others that if you believe in yourself you can achieve anything. In both endeavors I worked very hard, it was not easy but wouldn’t trade it for anything. I believe anything worth getting should be difficult and should take hard work otherwise it’s not valuable.
I overcame the challenges by never giving up. I believe falling down in life, failure is a part of the journey and the people who are winners pick themselves back up and keep going. There are many along the way that try to stand in your way or tell you that you shouldn’t even try because it’s too difficult. I would have never become an aerial film Pilot in the movie industry if I had listened to some people. It is however those people who mentor you and pick you up and believe in you that we need to surround ourselves with to succeed. Find mentors who will support your goals and help you along the way.
I would like the world to know that everyday is a gift, a journey to embrace, a journey to be grateful for. Everyday is a day we should strive to become better, strive for perfection and work hard. Everyday also is another day we can make a difference in this world by spreading kindness, love, forgiveness and understanding of others. If all 7 billion of us on Earth did an act of kindness each day for others, this world would transform overnight. My story is if I can do it, anyone can. I’m just a regular guy who has worked hard.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I live in Arizona and there is a lot of beauty here. I would take them to Sedona, Grand Canyon and Meteor Crater as well as the Mogollon Rim. I would hang out at my house for starters, cook at home and enjoy. As far as eating out one of my favorite places to eat is Volanti Restaurant at Scottsdale Airport. I actually perform there once a month and it overlooks the runway at the airport. It’s very fun and engaging.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Believe it or not I owe it all to God.
