We had the good fortune of connecting with Jenna Workman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jenna, what do you attribute your success to?
Initially when researching this industry, before Fair Maidens and Masks was even a dream in my heart, I realized the ability to hire a high-quality and reliable character was slim to none. Many character businesses are “mom & pop” style with no licenses, insurance, or even a website to pull-up. As a parent myself, it was horrifying to imagine ordering a character for my children from one of these businesses… Who would show up at my door? What would they look like? How would they behave? Would they even show-up at all?! These young years of our children’s life are so fleeting and precious. It is very important for many, including myself, to keep the magic alive in their hearts. Therefore, I started Fair Maidens & Masks to bring magic and a higher level of quality that parents and businesses can actually trust. Everything we do from hiring and training performers, purchasing costumes, the scripts we create are with quality and authenticity in mind. Now, over 3 years later since our start, FM&M has been able to maintain a perfect 5-star status, and that mission has really contributed to our success! First time clients become customers for life, they refer their families and friends to hire us because they are so pleased with our quality and service. The same with businesses big and small throughout the valley, they use our characters for their events year after year because they know they can rely on us!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Fair Maidens & Masks not only provides the highest quality mermaid, princess and action hero entertainers for your parties and events in the valley, but it’s the service we provide to our clients, AND our community, that really sets us apart. After almost two decades in the customer service industry, I’ve learned the importance of treating people (customers and inquirers alike) with kindness and respect. We strive to answer all your questions, ease your fears, get you excited, and overall exceed your expectations during every process of the the booking experience. I personally follow-up with every client after their party to see how we did and if we should make any improvements. Our commitment to service doesn’t stop with our customers. Our performers are so passionate about bringing joy and magic to the children in the Arizona valley that you may see us volunteering our time and resources to help support non-profit organizations and child-centered fundraisers, visit sick children in hospitals, or even make an appearance with the Make-a-Wish Foundation or Boys & Girls Club. In the words of Spider-man, “With great power comes great responsibility.” We try to live by that motto, and spread magic and joy to everyone who needs it!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Day 1: (Phoenix) Pick friend up from Phoenix Sky Harbour. Take her to the Phoenix Zoo. Climb Papago’s Hole in the Rock (snap lots of selfies!). Visit the Botanical Gardens for Sonoran Sippin’ and dinner at Gertrude’s: We’ll enjoy sipping our wine while strolling the botanical gardens during sunset and listening to live music. Spend the night at Arizona Grand Resort & Spa.

Day 2: (Tempe) Enjoy a lazy morning at the Grand Resort & Spa: Order room service for breakfast, relax by their many pools, float down the Zuni River, and eat a casual lunch at Oasis Grill. After a quick nap and shower, Uber over to Tempe Town Lake: Paddle boat and then Segway down the lake. Treat ourselves to a margarita and explore the train graveyard at Macayo’s Mexican Restaurant. Have dinner & cocktails at Culinary Dropout. Bar hop down Mill Ave.

Day 3: (Mesa/Gilbert) Enjoy another lazy morning at the resort (I am NOT a morning person, lol). Check-out of the resort and head for lunch at The Porch in Tempe. Visit as many Museums as we can fit before dinner: Tempe History Museum, I.d.e.a. Museum, Arizona Museum of Natural History, and Mesa Art Center. Go to Dierks Bentley’s Whiskey Row (Gilbert) for dinner and dancing. Hop around to other restaurants in Downtown Gilbert for a drink (including The White Rabbit Bar). Spend the night nearby at Best Western Plus Mesa.
Day 4: (Downtown Scottsdale) Checkout of hotel and head to brunch at Prep & Pastry in Scottsdale. Stroll around downtown Scottsdale for shopping, drinking and photos (making sure to stop at: Barrio Queen and Farm & Craft). Check-into The Scott Resort to relax & replenish before another active night. Get our hair styled at Primp and Blow (Blow Dry Bar). Enjoy dinner and cocktails at Olive & Ivy, lounge outside on their patio couches. Bar hop in downtown Scottsdale.
Day 5: (Scottsdale) Enjoy a morning by the pool at the Scott Resort. Eat lunch at their Canal Club. Go to Arizona Boardwalk and go to: Butterfly Wonderland, Pangea Land of the Dinosaurs, grab an ice cream at Frozen Penguin, and end the visit at OdySea Aquarium where we’ll probably run-into one of my characters for photo opps. Invite more friends to join us at Top Golf where we will golf, have dinner and enjoy the sunset views from the third floor.
Day 6: (North Scottsdale & North Phoenix) Treat our sore muscles to a relaxing massage at the Scott Resort after a long night of golfing. Check-out of the resort. Head over to Kierland Commons and Scottsdale Quarter for shopping and dining. Watch a movie at IPic Theaters. Have Dinner at Barrio Queen at Desert Ridge. Stroll around Desert Ridge Marketplace and have a drink at CB Live, The Whining Pig and Pigtails. Spend the night at JW Marriott Phoenix Desert Ridge Resort & Spa.
Day 7: (Glendale) Enjoy the resort pool and amenities before checking-out. Have lunch at Hula’s Modern Tiki and stroll High Street. Take a painting class at Pinspiration. Watch an evening Spring Training Game at Peoria Sports Complex for a couple hours (we’ll be sure to take a picture with a few of my characters in attendance). Grab a hot dog and Kona Ice from a stadium vendor for an early dinner. Attend a live concert or show at Gila River Arena. Grab a drink at a few restaurants at Westgate Entertainment District. Spend the last night at the Renaissance Phoenix Glendale Hotel & Spa.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Shout out to my Prince Charming, husband Jason Workman, for supporting and encouraging me to follow-my dreams no matter how fantastical they sound! He cares for our children when I’m busy at events. He willingly drives my “Maiden-Mobile”, aka pink minivan wrapped with Princesses and Superheroes (lol), to help drop-off costumes to the performers. Jason deals with my geeky princess and superhero obsession with endearing amusement. You help make my world go round, thanks babe!
