Hi Jennifer, what’s one piece of conventional advice that you disagree with?
One piece of conventional advice I disagree with is “follow the competition closely.” While understanding market trends and knowing what others in the industry are doing can be beneficial, I believe that focusing too much on competitors can stifle your unique vision and innovation. At A Perfect Fit, we prioritize carving our own path and staying true to our values and mission.

Interestingly, my relationship with my competitors is one of mutual respect and collaboration. Instead of viewing them as rivals, I see them as friends and partners in uplifting our industry. We share insights, support each other, and work together to raise the standards for everyone. There’s plenty of business to go around, and by collaborating rather than competing, we can all contribute to a thriving industry. This sense of community and camaraderie is something I am deeply grateful for and is a testament to the strength and passion we all bring to our work.

A Perfect Fit is a full-service nanny agency dedicated to delivering personal assistance in finding the right candidate for every family. Our dedicated team is here to guide families through the process, ensuring a smooth and fulfilling journey in meeting their childcare needs. We strive to be more than just a professional service; we aim to create bonds that feel like an extension of the family.

What sets A Perfect Fit apart from other businesses in our industry is our two-customer model. We consider not only the paying family as our customer but also the nanny as an equal customer. This approach ensures that both parties receive the care and attention they deserve. Our focus on safety and security is paramount. We provide all families with continuous background check monitoring at no additional cost and offer all our nannies a free membership to the International Nanny Association (INA). This membership is a significant benefit as it provides our nannies with access to professional development resources, industry standards, and a community of peers and experts that support their growth and excellence in childcare. We are the only agency in the country currently to offer these combined benefits!

I am incredibly proud of our growth, from starting in Scottsdale, AZ, over 15 years ago to now being in five major metropolitan cities, and the launch of our full-service household staffing sister company, A Perfect Fit Household Staffing. This journey was made possible by building strong relationships with each and every family and nanny we worked with, emphasizing the importance of lifelong connections between families and caregivers.

However, the journey wasn’t without challenges. The COVID-19 pandemic, recent economic shifts, and inflation posed significant hurdles. We overcame these challenges by pivoting to meet the current needs of local families and adapting to their circumstances. Meeting families where they are has been crucial to our resilience and continued growth.

A key lesson I’ve learned along the way is the importance of trusting a team to help grow the business. Starting a family of my own taught me this valuable lesson, and it is a significant reason for our rapid growth and success. You can’t do it alone!

As a former nanny myself, I understand the profound impact a nanny can have on a child’s life. I still keep in contact with the families I’ve worked for, and now that I have a nanny for my family who is truly part of our family, it feels like everything has come full circle. A nanny is not just an employee; they are one of the most meaningful people in your child’s life and will help shape who they become. This belief is at the heart of A Perfect Fit and what we strive to achieve for every family we work with.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
For a week-long visit to Phoenix, immerse yourself in the city’s vibrant culture and stunning landscapes. Begin your journey with a hearty breakfast at Matt’s Big Breakfast, their hash browns are my fav! Dive into art and culture at the Phoenix Art Museum, then stroll through the Roosevelt Row Arts District to admire colorful street art and local galleries. Downtown offers diverse dining options; don’t miss The Arrogant Butcher for a memorable dinner. Day two brings outdoor adventure with a hike up Camelback Mountain (weather permitting of course) followed by lunch at The Henry. Explore the Desert Botanical Garden and savor dinner at Fuego Bistro. Scottsdale beckons on day three with breakfast at Daily Dose and a day of gallery-hopping and shopping in Old Town. Dinner at The Mission highlights modern Latin cuisine. Day four delves into cultural richness with visits to the Heard Museum and the Musical Instrument Museum, where global music history unfolds. Enjoy lunch at Chelsea’s Kitchen (don’t miss out on the free salted chocolate chip cookies!) and dinner at Café Monarch, a culinary gem. On day five, relish breakfast at Ollie Vaughn’s before exploring local markets or relaxing at Papago Park. Indulge in dinner at Postino for the tastiest bruschetta, a favorite among Upward Projects’ restaurants known for its relaxed atmosphere and delectable wine selection. Day six invites outdoor bliss at South Mountain Park, followed by lunch at The Farm at South Mountain. Conclude your journey with a leisurely lunch at Original Gravity, a neighborhood favorite, fitting farewell before departure, reminiscing on a week filled with the best of Phoenix’s food, culture, and natural beauty.

I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my incredible team at A Perfect Fit. As my maternity leave approaches in just a few weeks, their unwavering dedication and support have truly shone through. Their commitment to our success and customer satisfaction has made me feel entirely comfortable and confident in leaving the business in their capable hands while I focus on the new addition to my family.
