We had the good fortune of connecting with Jerry Cave and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jerry, what do you attribute your success to?
I only know how to paint one way, and I stay in my lane. I believe consistancy is important to artists, and my work has become rather recognizable over the years. Watching other artists’ methods online helps me try new things, and just trying to do better work along the way keeps me motivated. I’m always learning.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I began drawing when I was very young, and worked in commercial art for several years, but it didn’t offer me the creativite I needed. I’m not classically trained, and am pretty much self taught. I began seriously painting about 15 years ago, but didn’t really have a direction or style. Then I painted a ceramic tequila bottle, and everyone said, “You need to paint tequila bottles!” A family member asked me to paint one as a memorial to her late husband, and that was suddenly my direction. From there, people actually started buying my work, and that was a thrill. I’m obsessive/compulsive, and I love painting shiny things, as well as animals, and because of that my work is rather detailed. I can’t stop painting until it’s a good representation of the subject. And, living in Arizona, I really appreciate the cultures of the people of the Southwest, and incorporate that into many of my works. People who have the same interests that I do are those who purchase my work. I sell original and limited edition fine art prints of my work to make it available to a broader audience.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There is so much! We would obviously have to go to Los Dos Molinos, and/or La Ristra. Those are both in the east Valley. There are so many great places to eat here. But then it would be off to Prescott, Jerome, Sedona to the north, and Tucson, Tombstone and Bisbee to the south. Arizona is a young state, but there is a great deal of history here, as well as spectacular scenery. My wife and I are fortunate to live near the base of the Superstition Mountains in Gold Canyon, and we never get tired of the beauty here.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Absolutely. The folks at Los Dos Molinos in Mesa, and the two La Ristra restaurants in Gilbert and Chandler. They gave me an opportunity to display my work, which gives me great visibility, and as a result – sales!
