We had the good fortune of connecting with Jess Marinos and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jess, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Finding your “No” is so powerful when working for yourself! In the beginning you are so excited to take on any work the word no rarely finds it’s way into your vocabulary. Sometimes that can be okay, but eventually the exhaustion kicks in and burn out isn’t far behind. There is so much power in knowing your worth and your limitations! It took me many many years to be okay with the fact that I am important too and it’s not only perfectly normal for me to set boundaries, but it’s a huge benefit to my mental health and the growth of my business!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am a postnatal doula, holistic nutritionist and certified sleep coach. I help support families after baby is born in so many different ways! Whether it’s feeding support, infant care support, sleep support and so much more. I think the biggest thing that sets me apart from others is that I had an extremely tough postpartum journey and try to fill on the gaps that were missing for me. I have been through the tough times that my families are or might go through and can relate in a way that maybe others cannot. I am so excited about finally taking the leap to go out on my own and create an even more in depth and personalized support system for my families!

My business journey has been a rollercoaster I sometimes regret I got on, and other times could not be more excited about. It has not been easy in a way shape or form, but it has create such an immense log of knowledge that makes me feel more and more confident in myself and what I can so for my clients.

I will forever believe and stand by that the world needs more doulas!! Our care should be standard practice for every family no matter their social or economical stance. I hope to open a postnatal care center to create a safe and empowering space for my families to heal. I believe everyone should have the ability to obtain the education and support to make their postpartum journey a loving and happy time!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Sedona hands down is my favorite place to go in Arizona. The calming effect it has on me is indescribable. I am way too much in my head and when I need to breathe I drive up there for the day to hike and meditate.

First I would take my friend to Bell Rock for a hike. The trails there are where the vortex connects and tends to have the most effects on me. I would also make sure we drove up a little north of town to get fresh spring water. You’ve never had proper water until you’ve had it fresh from a natural spring!! There are so many great local shops and restaurants there as well so just exploring for the day can be so much fun.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The biggest shoutout and MVP goes to my mom, hands down. She is my biggest cheerleader in everything I do and helps with my son many many days a week when I have to work late for free!!
