Meet John Gimmler | Drummer/ Audio engineer/ Music producer

We had the good fortune of connecting with John Gimmler and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi John, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
To me risks are essential to survival. To the survival of well-being and desired way of life. Without risks, you might be trapped in a routine leaving you depressed or unfulfilled. I’ve always been one to go after my goals. That being said, its a double edged sword and doesn’t always work out. But, I’ll take those odds and bet on myself most of the time. What’s the alternative? Wondering “what if?”. Most of the amazing experiences/accomplishments/ relationships I’ve had were made possible by risk and self-belief.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I operate a recording/ rehearsal studio called Strike Accord Music. We offer recordings, rehearsal space, lessons and private events/ concerts. In addition to that, I am a professional drummer for hire. What sets me apart is I’ve struggled to overcome intense adversity and childhood trauma, I’m a veteran of war, I became a father at a very young age and I have extensive experience performing and touring the entire U.S. as well as multiple countries around the world. I am proud of the fact that I stayed involved in what I am passionate about through many trials along the way. Between being a single father, healing from trauma, countless grueling jobs to make ends meet, struggling with addiction and just plain old aging.. I’ve had plenty of excuses to hang it up and play it safer.
I’ve learned that our time is precious and we take it for granted. There’s always circumstances pulling us away from where we want to be. To me it’s a constant effort and I’m not ready to slow down.
Through confidence and hard work you can create opportunities. Sometimes it’s the only way to get out of that hole.
The whole idea behind the name Strike Accord Music is get up and go after it yourself! Don’t wait for it to happen for you.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Tucson is growing so fast and there’s so many new places popping up but some of my go-to spots for food/ beverages are Rocco’s lil Chicago, Decibel Coffee Works, Hotel Congress, Bar Sidecar, Obon Sushi and Ramen, and la Estrella Bakery. For fun I’d say hiking/ running, Mt Lemmon, the museums, thrift stores..

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The list is endless but I’ll name a few. Kathy Woodridge founder of Skrappy’s, Danny and Cecelia Barrios, Dana Fehr and Nick Hoenig over at Decibel coffee works, Katt kassidy with DesertGoth club, Dre Joe my assistant manager and shredder of guitar, John Caleb Jackson videographer, everyone who has been involved with Strike Accord Music in any way, my family, my amazing Mom, my son and daughter Logan and Luna- the best accomplishments I’ve made! And my god. Thanks for everything.
