We had the good fortune of connecting with John Modi and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi John, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
MakerFlo Crafts was originally founded on the basis of providing unique and high quality craftable supplies. Since its founding over 4 years ago, our business has pivoted many times and stands on a foundational belief of, “Be Good, Do Good, Spread Good.” That if you internally mean well for yourself and others, if you do well for yourself and others, that you will automatically spread good! We do not know the definition of good or bad, but as long as we accentuate and strive for what we believe to be good, it will automatically create wonder, curiosity and inspire others. By believing in that phrase, we hope to spread goodness in whatever communities we step into and eventually spreading goodness in the world!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
MakerFlo Crafts has pivoted it’s business model over the last 4 years more than once. Starting the business right before COVID, and going through the ups and downs of the e-commerce ecosystem since has been a roller coaster ride to say the least! The most recent pivot we have made is to turn MakerFlo Crafts from a product business to a Craftcation business. Craftcation, don’t worry, it’s not a word, but we coined it to mean a Craft Education business! We are turning MakerFlo on its head and providing as much education content and material to teach our community the art of different crafts! We are supplying the education, the machines and the materials so our crafting community can be successful at their hobby or their business! We are extremely excited about this pivot and we have already seen that our customers are loving the new MakerFlo as their consuming the educational content and getting into new crafts!

It has not been easy to pivot so many times since we started, but the economic conditions in the last 4 years did not make it easy to sit and do business as is! Changes had to be made as consumer trends changes year after year, quite literally.

The best way to tackle the challenges was to listen to our cusotmers. We had video interviews, always conducted surveys and made sure the pivots were not done based on what we thought the industry needed, but more so what the customer requested!

In saying that, we would love the world to know that MakerFlo Crafts is here to service the entire community! It’s customers, it’s team members, and all the businesses that support it! MakerFlo Crafts is a community effort which exudes Be Good, Do Good, Spread Good!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Marc, my business partner, and I, John, believe that if there is any major shoutout that needs to be given, should be towards our parents! They have taught us what family means and what love and support truly means, in good times or bad. They have worked in our business when we ran it at Marc’s house on a ping pong table, and till this day, they will come in and put some hours in and show their support whether its at the warehouse or for a tradeshow. Marc and I try to embody their characteristics the best we can to run our business and show the same love and support to our team, our customers and anyone we work with.
