We had the good fortune of connecting with Johnny Tran and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Johnny, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I was working a 9-5 job at the time when my girlfriend got laid off from her job. We are both dog lovers so she decided to start dog walking then that led to pack walks. From there she grew her business and started dog training. I on the other hand have always been good with cars. I grew up building race cars and figured why don’t I get into off-roading and overlanding since I love to hike and love nature. This is where our we joined forces while my girlfriend takes care of the dog training and I do all the planning for camping adventures where we take our clients and dogs for a weekend campout. To help owners build a relationship with their furbabies and give them an introduction on camping off grid where we practice leave no trace and tread lightly.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I think what draws people into our business besides the relationship we have with our clients and pups. Is our content on social media, we’re both photographers and videographers and love to get creative any chance we get to showcase what we do for a living wether it’s dogs or exploring nature with the furbabies. Content creating isn’t always easy as algorithm is always changing on these platform but we try our best to keep up with the trends.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If we had friends visiting, they’re usually beer drinkers like us. Our usual spot would have to be Brewery X we’ve host a couple of events there and Clayton has always been supportive. We love supporting local business.
Most of our friends also have rigs. We would most likely hit up our local spot in Big Bear and off-road to our favorite camp spot to hang out for the weekend. This where we cook gourmet meals and hang out by the campfire and share laugh and stories with some adult beverages.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to thank Rigged For Dirt for having such a great community. They host a rig meet up once a month where off-roading and overlanding enthusiast can come hang out and talk about rigs and adventures. I have met many amazing people from these meets where I get ideas on builds for our own vehicles.
I would also love to thank my girlfriend Kat from The Canine Explorers LLC without her Canine Overland LLC wouldn’t be where we’re at today.
