We had the good fortune of connecting with Jonathan Wang and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jonathan, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
At ESW, we believe that the most important factor behind our success is the people. We are driven to meet the goals of our clients, we respect and are also inspired by each other, and we’re a family who have a desire to do our best for each other. The relationships with our team are built on trust and mutual respect, and we believe that this is the KEY to our success. We’re proud of our team and the work that we do, and we’ll continue to work hard to build strong relationships with our employees.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
ESW was founded in 2005 as a small design studio. Over the years, we’ve evolved into a full-service marketing agency. Our roots and culture are still very much a small shop vive but today we are working with Fortune 500 companies and enterprise businesses. We’re excited about our joint-venture with Boulder, Inc., a Los Angeles based video production firm to help launch our video and motion graphics side of the business.

ESW got to where we are today by simply CARING. Caring about the quality of our work, our clients and their successes, and the people around us including the team, our vendors and everyone that we have a touchpoint with. We touch lives through our work and it’s always been important to us to do so with intention and care.

Of course we faced challenges in starting and growing our agency. Financial stress during the recession. We stuck together as a team and really pulled through. Like my previous statement about people being the most important factor in our business, its a shared mindset, sharing short term and long term goals. When everyone is on the same page, working together towards common goal, there is a lot less room for error. And we made some errors early on, but because we had that communication and trust within our team, we were able to overcome them quickly and move forward. Thats what I think has been key to our success.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My favorite spot in Tucson is &gallery, which is actually the front-half retail space of our ESW office; so this is a bit of a shameless plug. It started as a passion-project that’s grown and evolved into its own entity. We showcase art that is eclectic and borderline strange/weird for most, but we love it. The gallery has become a popular spot for U of A students, locals and tourists alike, and we’re always striving to curate an interesting and thought-provoking collection of art. https://www.andgallery.art/

Here’s the rest of the itinerary.
Start out on 4th Ave ~ approx. 6th and 4th close to the Dairy Queen.
I’d start at Lindy’s on 4th for burgers.
Then, head south and check out all the local shops like Creations Boutique, Tiny Town, Generation Cool, &gallery, Antigone Books.
Keep heading south a couple more blocks, and you’ll find the Boxyard ~ a little community of converted shipping containers turned dining and bars.
After a few beers, continue heading south under the bridge and you’ll pop out right at Congress St.
