Meet Jono and Monique Harris | Content Creators

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jono and Monique Harris and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jono and Monique, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk plays a big role in our lives and we love to expose ourselves to these moments. We believe that risk creates growth and if you are taking risks, then you are learning! For us we are learning to be better people and appreciate what life has to offer. Jono and I literally sold everything and bought a caravan and travelled Australia full time for two and a half years, now we are on a backpacking journey around the world with no end date. Our passion for travel, immersing ourselves in different cultures and meeting new people has led to a phenomenal growth to be better people and keep striving! Don’t get us wrong, literally selling everything was big risk and we do get many people telling us what we have done it crazy but we don’t care. Even if this is all a mistake at least we can look back and say we had an amazing time and did what we wanted to do! Social Media has been such an amazing way to document it all and has even led us to earning some income while travelling.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Jono and I are both content creators where we document our travels and life through social media and our blog. We also do Social Media Coordination and Business Collaborations on the side while travelling. We first started our content creating while caravanning around Australia back in 2020. We started social media as a means of fun but then we started to engage more with others and be active/consistent with the content we put out. It has taken a lot of planning on our end and team work with delegation with who will be completing what tasks on social media. We did find social media to be a distraction at one point worried about followers and likes but we changed our mindset to just make sure we had good quality content and to appreciate the people we have made friends with on our platforms, this has been key to our content!
We have had to change up things such as stopping full length YouTube videos every week but we took on blog writing this year as we thought this would match our life better and would help others more! We were the ones who applied for affiliate programs and reached out to different companies to collaborate, this scared us at the start but what’s the worst that can happen? They say ‘no’ or don’t reply? We really just changed our mindset as we know we provide great content and we are confident with that. Overall our life is very unique and many wouldn’t choose to sell it all to travel the world with no end date. We want people to understand that you can do whatever you want in life with enough determination and your mindset is the key to your own happiness.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We are originally from Gold Coast, Australia. We really love that part of the world and this is what we have done when a friend was visiting us! We personally love hiking and walking. We particularly love hikes with stunning views, challenging terrain and waterfalls! During the week we would probably plan hikes and walks such as going up to the Glass House Mountains for a challenging hike up one of the peaks, take a drive through the Hinterland Region and go to Mount Tamborine to do some rainforest hikes. We would do a lovely coastal walk through Noosa and even the Gold Coast from Southport to Surfers Paradise. We would grab a bite to eat at the beach and for dessert we would get ice cream at a local gelato or even Ben and Jerry’s (this was a weekly ritual for us in the Gold Coast and/or at Noosa!). We would take them to some amazing bakeries for lunch or breakfast, the Gold Coast has some amazing bakeries with such delicious treats and stunning settings, plus exquisite coffee.
We personally are not the type of people to wine and dine too much, we love natural settings with some great quality food to have on the go or eat in a picnic setting or we even love a greasy takeaway while watching the beach or water! We love local weekend markets so the weekend would consist of a chilled out day with a walk or bike ride to a market, get some food at the market and even get stuff to take home. We love doing this as we see so many unique items at markets which show off the local flavours in the area. The week would also consist of going to art galleries or museums, it’s always nice to see what’s on offer and some of these places have different events going on which is fun to check out. We lastly would take them to small villages with boutique and fun stores, the Gallery Walk in the Gold Coast or even Montville at the Sunshine Coast are great examples of places to visit, they are quirky areas with heaps to see and do in one day!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We are both Christians and take our lives day by day living in the now for God. We would definitely say our support comes from God and the bible as they provide us direction and the positive reinforcement to take life as it comes and to take risks without worrying. Our family and friends have been a great help too, at the start when we told them our goals they thought it was far fetched but they always pray for us and say how proud they are in our achievements, even if it’s different to their goals and we appreciate that!
