We had the good fortune of connecting with Jordan Christian LeVan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jordan, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
My name is Jordan Christian, and I am an advocate, author, and President of The Apraxia Foundation: Hearing All Voices. Specifically, I advocate for childhood apraxia of speech, mental health, and disabilities. My advocation and career choices help the apraxia community have more awareness and acceptance. I speak personally about my first-hand life experiences growing up with childhood apraxia of speech to help others. I’ve found writing about these experiences in my nonfictional book series, Jordan’s World, has not only been incredibly healing but has helped so many kids. Many kids will point to my character in the book and say he’s just like me. I’m coming out with the third book in the series, The Boy Who Spoke Even When His Voice Shook, which aims to deliver confidence to people with childhood apraxia of speech never to be ashamed of their voice. My advocacy is a mission and is offering a new perspective; to live unapologetically as the person you are and to embrace your individuality. My nonprofit organization, The Apraxia Foundation: Hearing All Voices, helps individuals and families afford research evidence-based services needed for childhood apraxia of speech. We also are holding multiple festivals, right now five over the USA, where we will all come together and celebrate childhood apraxia of speech and that everybody’s different because you deserve to be always celebrated, not just tolerated.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m an Advocate, Author, President of The Apraxia Foundation: Hearing All Voices, Public Speaker, and Mentor. To get to where I’m at today and where I’m going was not easy. I like to be as honest and authentic with my audience as possible. Authenticity is hard because our society is so obsessed with fitting in. However, I believe others saw my love for being different & unapologetic, which made me stand out from others. I’m also very charismatic; I believe I was made for the line of work I do and more. I have learned the fear of failure will only hold you back. You must be willing to put yourself out there and be confident in yourself.
I want people to know that I’m not here for people to like me. I’m here to create a more accepting and open world, and I will do whatever I have to do to get it.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live in Greensboro, North Carolina. I love the shopping near here and in cities close by. I also love many coffee shops in the area, and I would love to take them to all the neat little coffee shops. For food, I love cheesecake. There’s a little place called Cheesecakes by Alex that’s so good it’s sinful. I’m also a person who enjoys nature, and there are so many beautiful sights. I believe the best way you can spend time with a person is by sitting with each other just talking about your struggles and what you are currently experiencing. The last few years and have been hard for us all, and we need to come together more than ever.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to shout out to my mom for this interview. I say I got my advocation for my mom because she was also a fearless & unapologetic advocate for me. I love you. Thank you for always supporting me.
