We had the good fortune of connecting with Jordan Helmey Vinck and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jordan, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
Diet culture is everywhere. It’s all around us! We have been conditioned so much by diet culture that some of the things we say and do around food, our bodies, and what we classify as healthy is normalized. But it’s not normal to cut out entire food groups, to tell yourself you need to earn food by working out, or to think you need to be “good” this week by exercising every day and eating salads. Sound familiar? I used to do and say these things too! But just because it seems normal in society doesn’t mean it’s healthy or good for us. Or that it’s the only way.

I became a health coach because I went down this path myself; exploring fad diets, negative self-talk, thinking I had to earn my food by exercising before or burning it off after. BUT I found a better way! My mission as a health coach is to help people feel good in their bodies through nourishment, movement, and self-love so they can find their own sustainable balance that works for them! If we learn how to nourish ourselves with the food both on and off our plates so that we feel energized, happy, and healthy then we can show up and be the best versions of ourselves and really enjoy our lives to the fullest. Change is hard, we all know that. I’ve been there myself and know its a constant journey. And doing it alone is even harder. By being a health coach, I love getting to help support people as they reach their health & wellness goals and cheer them on as they do it!

What should our readers know about your business?
I’m a Holistic Health Coach which means I approach wellness from more than just what you eat. I look at them as a whole person! Together with my clients, we look at all areas of their life and how they play a role in their health. Work, stress, relationships, home environment and so much more. If you were to eat the ‘perfect’ amount of calories/macronutrients and exercise regularly for your body, you still might not be ‘healthy’, happy, or energized. That’s why we dig a little deeper and talk about what’s going on in life outside of just the food on the plate. I believe that each person has the power and ability to change their life becuase I have seen it and done it myself. And as a coach, I get to help my clients get to the why behind their goals and support them on their journey.

Before being a health coach, I was a fitness instructor at Solidcore studios on the east coast and Lagree/Xformer studios here in Arizona. Before this year, these were passion projects on the side of my full-time HR job. I was laid off in the first half of 2022 and took that as my sign to take my health coaching business and wellness passion full time. So where I am today looks different than 6 months ago and will continue to change as I and my business grow. It’s definitely been a challenge being thrown out of your comfort zone but I’m reminded that what I share with my clients applies to me as well. It is not always going to be perfect or happen the way you think it will. But it’s a journey and you get to take both hands on the wheel and steer where you want it to go.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I have a ton of friends still on the east coast, so getting them here for the sunshine would be number one. You are instantly in a better mood because of all that sunshine and vitamin D!

There is such a food scene here and I still haven’t been to so many places. But we would probably hit up Gooder Goods or Provision for coffee. Gooder Goods also has some bomb avocado toast! AJ’s (is a grocery store) but they have some bomb Ice Teas that are giant.
Some favorites for brunch include The Vintage, The Henry, or Luci’s (at the Orchard or Grove depending on where we are!) Joyride, Postinos, or LGO are some of the eating-out repeats that I love to rotate through. And Toca Madera is also a spot with a fun atmosphere, great drinks, and tasty food for a night out!

Since I am a coach at two different local studios, we of course would stop by for a class at Get It Movement HIIT Pilates (in North Scottsdale) or The Body Lab (in Arcadia). But while they are here we definitely would take advantage of the hikes nearby. Tom’s Thumb is one of my favorites because it’s way less touristy than Camelback. Totally worth the drive a little father out of the city. Piestewa Peak is also a repeat being so close and multiple trail options to change it up.

Lastly, I’m also a huge fan of the Farmer’s Market on Central when it’s in season for so many yummy in-season foods and local vendors. I love to explore and try new things, giving me inspiration for my own meals at home.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I wouldn’t be where I am today without several people. Coaches need coaches and I’m so beyond grateful for those who have helped me. My life coach Brittny King has really been amazing in my transformation and growth, helping me get out of my own way and my own head.

Also, the Institute of Integrative Nutrition where I really got to dive deeper into so many health and nutritional topics.

And of course, my fiancé, family, and friends that have been nothing but supportive as I explored taking a leap of faith into something new.
