We had the good fortune of connecting with Jordan Lamb & Nan Evans and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jordan Lamb &, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Jordan: Between being a mom/wife, juggling my career as a nurse, and co-owning a business – there are A LOT of moving parts. My balance has shifted from relying on my memory to remember everything to utilizing three calendars to keep track of all the little details. The calendars are both digital and hard copy (I am old school) – they consist of orders for Cake Pop and Company, my work schedule and my husband’s work schedule with my family life sprinkled throughout. Considering we just started Cake Pop and Company at the very end of May – we are working to achieve that well oiled machine status.
Nan: Work life balance has definitely become more challenging after becoming a mom – a 24 hour full time job that never ends! I am a mom first, then a business owner. My kids & family are top priority. I’m the type of person who takes on too much & and then gets burnt out fast. I have to force myself to slow down & schedule a time off for me, myself & I. Owning a home-based business, oftentimes gets chaotic since you cannot separate work & home. I have become a pro at multi—tasking, tackling work & household duties simultaneously. Even the kids are involved in the business as professional taste testers – especially for new menu items.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
When creating Cake Pop and Company, a few things were important to us both – have high standards for our work, pay attention to the details and be creative while being unique.
As our name gets more and more out there – we look forward to watching our business grow while celebrating special moments, people and events.
Cake Pop and Company came from a play date in which we were baking cake pops. As the concept started to became a reality we put effort into researching and planning – learning what we could from our mistakes in order to perfect our recipes and improve our techniques.
Starting a business definitely has its challenges but we have each other to lean on and we motivate each other along the way.
Let Cake Pop and Company celebrate with you – whether it’s a special occasion or a just because – we look forward to creating something deliciously special.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Both of us are relatively new to Arizona (we have been here about 2 years – one of those years being a pandemic). So it would be a week long trip of us getting to explore Arizona’s beauty together.
Depending on when they come and visit – if it’s the summer time we can escape the Valley’s heat and head up north to Sedona to enjoy the red rock scenery and the gorgeous pine trees of Flagstaff. Then we can venture south to Sonoita and explore Arizona’s wine country.
We look forward to experiencing Arizona’s beauty.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Jordan: Even though they are no longer alive, I have to Thank my Mom and Dad! My parents were always my biggest supporters – my mom was my biggest cheerleader and my dad always there for support. They helped mold me into the woman I am today and for that, I Thank you both and I love you very much! My sister and best friend, Keeko – she always pushes me to be the best version of myself and someone I always aspire to be like. My husband for being that person I can lean on and my kids for keeping me grounded. A special thanks to my family and friends for the encouragement and support – your words mean more than you will ever know.
Nan: First off, Thanks to God, I would not be where I am today without His love & grace. On the stressful days when it feels like everything is going wrong, my husband & kids are there to lend a hand, so a big thank you to wonderful my family. Also a special Shoutout to my best friend Nino, who always encourages me to succeed.
