Meet Jorge Gomez | Executive Chef

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jorge Gomez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jorge, how do you think about risk?
In every profession there will always be risks – Did I take the right job? Did I select the right company? Is the job going to take a lot of time away from my kids and home life?
I do not think you can have success without risk, taking the risk is like betting on yourself, if you do not believe in yourself, well you will just cruise to life without risks and just see what life brings. I want to be better, so I want to take risks and see that if I can surpass them. I cannot live as a chef without thinking I am just doing it without doing my best.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Being a chef is hard work and countless hours of work. You have no holidays, work when people have time off, you spend time away from your kids and, from your family but the results when you work hard and achieve an amazing plate of food and seeing the happiness in the people faces when they eat it, creating menus, jobs and a restaurant that’s what drives me. I am proud of where I am, the Humble Group because we focus on Hospitality and Food. We want to be the best in what we do, I have partners and co-workers that want the same I do. I am proud of creating food that I want to eat and not food to please someone. It has never been easy, betting on myself — sometimes you are right and some other times you just fail and there is no where to go but up and keep moving forward I will not let anyone stop me. From closing restaurants to starting all over again to having 2 to 3 jobs at a time to make ends meet, is all a lesson and just makes you stronger. One lesson I learn is, always bet on yourself that will give you the best reward and happiness, I want the world to know that in our Humble concepts we love food, we are passionate about food and wine and we want our guest to have the best experience possible because we realize your time is valuable, so to us that we commit to do the best.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take people around Arizona for great golfing, excellent dining and show them views the Valley does not offer people anywhere else.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
This is hard because there is always people behind your back that keep motivating you. For me that will be my mom and dad always who is always believing in me. I never really have had a mentor, I have learned just by working and doing. I keep moving forward trying to do my best to show my kids you can succeed with hard work and dedication.
