We had the good fortune of connecting with Juana Gonzalez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Juana, what do you attribute your success to?
Perseverance. It is hard trying to start your own business as an esthetician. We learn as we go and it is so rewarding as time goes on. Things are not always easy but never giving up in what you believe in and on what you want your business to stand for makes it all worth it.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I always aim to create an environment that makes everyone that walks through my door welcome and comfortable. I want them to feel their best in their own skin and feel better when they leave than when they walked in. I am most proud of the relationships I have made with clients. Some have been with me since I started and I am forever grateful. I was never in the beauty industry but I have always worked with people. I used to a certified nursing assistant for 7 years. Changing my career to something that was opposite of what I have been doing was so scary. I knew that it would not be easy but I had to try. The more I learned in school the more excited I was to finish. I knew since the beginning that I did not want to work for anyone, I wanted to do my own and build it to be a safe zone for my future clientele. Of course building clientele can be stressful, but thanks to social media I was able to build what seemed like very fast. I stayed on top of it and still do to this day. I want everyone to see that things get better and better at Skin Lounge by J. I started out by doing room rental and after 9 months I was able to open my own storefront. Being able to help out other professionals is so rewarding and it is so great for our community. Having healthy relationships with those I work with are so important. I want them to feel comfortable while we work together. a healthy working environment means success. I want everyone to know that starting out in anything you do is not easy. Stay focused on your goals and never give up. Always be yourself and know that there are people out there that are willing to give you a chance.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Definitely down town Prescott. There are so many lakes and trails here. Our surrounding towns like Jerome, Sedona and Cottonwood.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband. Thanks to him I was able to attend beauty school full time. He held it down so I was able to pursue a career change that would benefit our family and future clientele. He is my number one fan and always helps in the business where ever he can.
