We had the good fortune of connecting with jules gissler and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi jules, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
“Why Not?”. To me, it puts fear aside and puts that action “Just Try” in front. Sometimes it’s just too easy to let fear slip in and keep you from doing what you want, or at least slowing the pace with too much thought involved. And with me, if I do fail –(that’s a pretty strong word)–so instead I’ll say if something doesn’t go as I planned, or envisioned, maybe instead, it will lead me down a better, or more exciting path.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art is both whimsical & realistic. I also incorporate quirky stories with some of my images. I’m obsessed with names, and love to name everything I create…with people names. I love doing commissioned art of people’s dogs. I feel like I get to know them personally. I have my own style, some curlicues and pink & yellow eyes, which is most recognizable from other dog artists. I also love creating flowers, food, women, and landscapes. I’m all over the map, but it goes back to my moto, “Why not” & “Just Try”. It has been a path of trial and error, and that is how you learn what you are passionate about. The greatest compliment is that my art or writing, made you smile.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If we stayed in Arizona, I would take them to Sedona, the Grand Canyon, and a few of my favorite hikes that are only 10-15 minutes from my house. If I had more time, I would drive to the. beach, about 5 hours away. I recently had a “big-number” birthday. I wanted to remember it well, and with this Pandemic, I thought it would be best to celebrate with me, myself, & I. I drove to Sedona and had one of the best birthdays I have ever had. That girl, Jules, was pretty cool to celebrate with! 🙂 I guess my favorite places are in nature. It just grounds you. This would be along with good food (Elote in Sedona is amazing), a good glass of wine, or (margarita, if you are at Elote), and good company.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My friends–this includes so many that are from my life in general, way back to my home state, Montana, and through my life’s moves around this country, my world-wide Instagram friends that I have never met, followers, classes, organizations, workshops, and traveling. In a nutshell, the connecting, and I do it best one on one.
