We had the good fortune of connecting with Kaitlin Murhy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kaitlin, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
After having three kids, fairly close together in the matter of 4 years and being a stay at home mom for 10 years, I had been looking for something that I could do while also raising my kids and not having to give up any of the important moments. I had been watching a lady online for a while from where I was at the time, and I thought I had to be an esthetician or cosmetologist to do spray tans so for years it held me back until I found out that I just needed to get certified either in person or online. I pulled the trigger and I haven’t looked back.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Getting a new business off the ground isn’t easy, 2 years ago I got certified, I loved spraying but being in a town where friends and family were limited I didn’t know or frankly had the confidence to put myself out there. I had “friends” that wanted to help by just receiving free tans but not willing to share their results or didn’t really care about me or my business. after a few years of struggling we had decided to move back to my home town in Yuma Arizona, I was on the fence about bringing my business (or lack there of) with me. After talking to my husband, mom and best friends, both local Yuma Business owners, I decided to rebrand and start over along with a new mindset and it has been a lot of work but its been so successful! My brand is just to be authentic! Be you, be who are despite what people think. when women step into my tent I want them to feel beautiful, confident and ready to take on the world!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Some of my favorite places you can find my family and I at Cocopah Speedway, my youngest son races a mini dwarf race car so we are often spending our Friday and Saturday nights at the race track supporting the kids and adult racers alike. Other places we love is the Colorado river boating during the summer and the Imperial Sand Dunes either riding in the RZR or Jeep. Other than outside activities, we love the downtown food and atmosphere, from lutes casino to cafecito we love being down there supporting the local small businesses.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
For me my first taste of the business was from a Facebook group, Business Beauty Babes founded by Kelly Callaghan. She not only does training but has made her way in this industry while uplifting other women along the way. Between the online trainings and discussions on this group, it helped me change my mindset about business and help me become confident in myself as a spray tan artist. My most important encouragement has come from my Husband. Having ADD I have gone through numerous business ventures, but the problem was I never LOVED them, they never spoke to my soul and brought me joy, but through all of them he has always had my back and encouraged and supported me through all of them. Along with the encouragement from my husband, my parents, bonus parents, siblings and friends they’ve all backed me and given me the opportunity to use them as guinea pigs, practice on them, referred me to their friends and family. helped talk me out of not quitting, baby sat my children and just simply been amazing and has made my story what it is today.
