Meet Kaleigh Rogers

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kaleigh Rogers and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kaleigh, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I’ve been on the frontlines of the mental health epidemic in the US since 2013 as a trauma therapist. I’ve served in domestic violence shelters, homeless shelters, youth residential treatment programs, community teen programs, and corporate healthcare. Unfortunately, I witnessed so many people lose their lives to suicide and overdose because of gaps in the system, broken families, and disconnected communities. Quality trauma therapists, effective therapies for complex PTSD, therapist burnout, cost of services, insurance gaps, and poor program policies are all broken spokes on the bicycle wheel we call the Arizona mental health system. I decided somebody needed to do something about it.

My business is named Shine His Light LLC. Although you are asking about “my” business, I can commonly be found saying “it’s not my business, it’s God’s business,” for it is Jesus’s light that is to be shone into the world, showing people they are loved and that they matter. Shine His Light LLC was born because people just like you and me are unable to access the therapy they need to heal. In 2022 the US saw the highest rates of suicide on record. In 2021 over 113,000 people in Arizona tried to access therapy but couldn’t due to cost. It’s unacceptable that hurting souls cannot get help.

Shine His Light operates as both a direct service provider and a unique platform to service individuals that can’t pay for the help that will change their lives. That’s why I partnered with local nonprofit Broken Arrow Wranglers to build a scholarship fund for people receiving care from Shine His Light. I am a dynamic speaker and I bring hope for healing wherever I go – marketplace ministry, women’s retreats, conferences, international expos, and churches.

God says He knows us before we were formed in the womb and set aide specific purposes for or lives. His plan began at the beginning and Shine His Light was shown to me in the mid-2000s. My life verse and God’s calling on my life became realized, albeit with some trepidation on my part, when I was a teenager reading scripture and watching movies such as Shawshank Redemption, Freedom Writers, Crash, and Stand and Deliver. It was clear I was to “defend the weak and the fatherless; uphold the cause of the poor and the oppressed. Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked” (Psalm 82:3-4).

I see the people around me as fellow brothers and sisters. People feeling alone, burdened, and powerless in the face of the abuses and violences they endured. Our community is ravaged by hurt and hate. My soul aches when I see real people resorting to isolation, depression, suicide, violent behaviors, and addiction. Shine His Light LLC was born for them. A safe place for the lost and hurting.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Shine His Light LLC is a therapy practice and platform that offers exceptional care rooted in the love of God. Our mission is to defend, uphold, rescue, and deliver people’s souls that ache for relief and seek safe pasture (Psalm 82:3-4). Our vision is that all will come to know they are loved and they matter. Although I have extensive education and post-education, it is in holistic care and advanced trauma therapies I found the most effective when I was addressing complex PTSD personally. My business offers just that: truly effective therapies and lasting community, albeit in ways most wouldn’t expect. One of the effective trauma therapies we offer is equine group therapy with troubled horses. The horses always shine a light on what is going on inside of you. They teach you where you fall short, where you need love, and how to go about growing into the leader God has called you to be. Equine group therapy is one of the most effective tools to mitigate traumatic stress. In addition, horses directly impact the somatic and emotional word, allowing your mind, body, and soul to be touched in ways it really has needed. Our model supports those who have experienced Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), complex PTSD, recovery from addiction, and trauma from the frontlines. We partner with local treatment centers, group homes, and frontline teams. No more sitting in an office talking endlessly for years. We function under a collaborative model where we partner with local ranches throughout the valley. We have locations in North Phoenix, Gilbert, San Tan Valley, Apache Junction, and soon to be Casa Grande.

What makes us very different is the door is open to everyone. Faiths and non-faiths. Income or no income. Most businesses only offer support for paying clients (cash pay or insurance) however being someone who couldn’t afford therapy in the past myself, I knew I had to do things differently. Cost is a barrier I am committed to solving. That is why I partnered with local nonprofit Broken Arrow Wranglers and hold the role of Executive Builder – build out a scholarship fund for people to access the care they need. Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love this question! Depending on the season, we would absolutely be outdoors. Arizona is an incredible place to experience the magic of nature. We would head to the Tonto National Park and eat breakfast at the Salt River with wild horses coming down for a drink. We would take a hike and listen to the birds, the stillness, and have real conversation about life and everything in between. If it’s a Sunday we’d get our worship on at Central Christian Church. We would later spend hours at one of our local ranches and experience the healing power of horses. We’d have dinner at Aunt Chilada’s in South Phoenix. And then drive out to the desert and watch the sun go down. We’d have plenty of laughter around a campfire, playing cards, and talking. Sounds amazing, huh? It truly is!!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The Shine His Light LLC ministry would not exist without some incredible people. Sean McNabb, Rob Boyle, Charlie & Debbie Hill, Mike & Karen Buchanan, Sarah Pearson, Scott Tyler, Dr. Jon McCaine, and my best friend – Jesus. Sean McNabb showed me that I didn’t have to wait to be a millionaire to start a business. Without His dedicated walk with God and encouragements, I really don’t know where I would be. He helped me trust the huge leap of faith I made, and has walked with me every step of the way. He’s truly my brother in Christ.

It’s all about the invitation. Rob Boyle invited to a Saturday morning pilot program with horses at Tyler Farms in 2019. My journey with horses has never been the same. It was around that roundpen that I met so many that have become lifelong friends and business supporters. Thank you Rob.

Dr. Jon McCaine, my mentor and former director, taught me that I can actually believe in the gifts I was given and my talent with leadership, expertise in trauma, and ability to find the balance I was seeking. My mind is so much sharper because of the weekly hours we spent talking about anything and everything under the sun.

Jesus. There is so much power in His name that the letters want to leap off the page!
