We had the good fortune of connecting with Katie Schuppler and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Katie, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I come from an entrepreneurial family and knew since I was little that I wanted to have my own business. Fashion is something I always had a love and passion for so after working in retail for 7 years, going to college, and getting a degree in Fashion Merchandise Management and Business Adminstration I thought it was time to start my Style Consulting business! Psychology is something I have always been interested in as well and I took many classes involving that during high school and college so it’s really great that I can have fashion and psychology be a part of my business everyday.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?

KS Style Consulting is a personal styling business that works with men and women of all shapes, sizes, ages, and budgets to achieve their image goals. We offer closet clean outs, personal shopping sessions, and look books.

Something that sets us apart from other styling services you may have seen advertised is that we work one on one with our clients, get to know them, and make a plan of attack to help make them feel the most confident through the way they dress!

I started KS Style Consulting 12 years ago here in Chicago, Illinois. Originally I am from the Milwaukee area in Wisconsin and moved to Chicago right after graduating college and jumped right into entrepreneurship!

Having your own business is a rollercoaster of emotions. One day you could be on cloud nine with everything going perfectly and the next day it could feel like everything is going the opposite direction. With my business I have gone through part of a recession and then Covid and both were very difficult to get through without wanting to give up at times. This is when you get most creative! I’ve learned that the tough times make you smarter and work harder and with that the universe rewards you with “good business karma” is what I like to call it.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There are so many great places to go to and amazing restaurants to eat at in Chicago so this is hard to narrow down!

On a Saturday I would suggest going to the Lincoln Park farmers market, great vendors and lots of cute dogs then maybe walk over to the lake and go for a long walk or rent a bike to go down the lakeshore trail.

I’m a vegan so Handlebar, The Chicago Diner, and Native Foods are some of my favorite spots. For the not all vegan option restaurants Rooh, Lyra, Gene and Georgetti’s, and Nuevo Mexicano are my other top places.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My Dad has been my biggest inspiration and mentor since day one of starting my business. His advice, support, and knowledge of being an entrepreneur is something I have always leaned on to get me through and helped me to get to where I am today.

Family, friends, and my peers in the fashion community have all been such a great support system throughout the years as well. Couldn’t get by without them!
