We had the good fortune of connecting with Kellie Carlton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kellie, why did you pursue a creative career?
I like doing creative things and personal training is a creative outlet. I get to work with all different types of people and help them solve individual problems, and that’s where working one on one I enjoy. If I have 10 different client’s goals in a day it’s always a challenge and never boring. I get to work with psychology,
anatomy, kinesiology, biomechanics, and physiology. By helping other people I also become understanding of my own condition having cervical dystonia, which is a muscle and nerve condition of the neck. We share ideas, they help me and I help them. It creates community.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have been in the fitness industry for 27 years and have been a trainer for 22 years and have trained 4000 plus clients from age 9 to 92. I can train all ages but work primarily with the 50 and over age group doing corrective exercise and allowing my clients to regain their balance and live a healthy active lifestyle. I work with and have helped people that have arthritis, scoliosis, osteoporosis, strokes, parkinsons, heart issues, mental disabilities, knee and hip replacements, diabetes, and back issues. I also help my clients with reducing their weight and body composition through program design and nutritional consultation. I’m a people person and love to help people reach their goals.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would definitely have them visit in the winter! I love the outdoors and hiking so I would take them to Camelback Mountain and the Superstitions to hike and enjoy the beauty of the desert. The botanical garden would also be a great place.
Mexican food is a southwest favorite so Los Dos Molinos restaurant is awesome and if you like spicy food it’s a great place!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shoutout to my client Steve, he is 67 years old and he has lost 20 lbs and 4% bodyfat. He has diabetes and his A1C is down and his doctor is very pleased. He is following the program 100% and getting great results.
