We had the good fortune of connecting with Kelly Hill and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kelly, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I believe taking a risk has played such an important role in my life and career. If I would have never taken the risk to invest in starting my own business I would still be working in a job I was not fully satisfied with. Waking up everyday dragging myself because I did not want to go. I have finally found my passion in doing permanent makeup and I would not have discovered this if I would not have taken risks.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Kelly’s Dream Brows was definitely not a business that was easy to create. Even the name itself took so much thought and effort to create. Let me start off by sharing when it started. I have always been the type to say I will get my dream job no matter how long or what it takes. Luckily it didn’t take too long, I was a school teacher for 5 years before doing permanent makeup full time and I was just not happy. I was pregnant at the time I decided to get certified in pmu and was very scared to do it. (Im tattooing people’s faces!) But, I said to myself if I don’t try this, then I will never know if I like it or not. I am so glad I did because I FELL IN LOVE! I would spend countless hours, pregnant, up late at night to get better and better and it was okay because I enjoyed doing it. So if there’s anything I want people to know about me is that I LOVE what I do and I don’t take any procedure lightly but take pride in making anyone who chooses me to work on them feel more beautiful than ever.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would say they should check out the yuma river ocean to ocean, maybe even walk up to the old prison museum. Check out down town Yuma there are multiple fun shops around there. grab a coffee at any local coffee shop. Harkins Theatre. There is so many things to do I would say google the area because everyone is different and finds fun different than others.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
success definitely occurs when people work their butt off to get to where they want to get but it’s always so much easier when you have support. I want to thank my husband for always being there for me and encouraging me to keep going even when it got tough. Then it’s my 2 boys, although they dont know it, they push me and make me stronger because I want to be a great example for them.
