We had the good fortune of connecting with Tina Newton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tina, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Baking has always been a favorite thing of mine to do, it only made sense to do something that I love and provide for my family at the same time, I was always baking anyways.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Building Baked has not been easy, originally it was called Creative Thinking Gift Baskets, I had a store front downtown on 7th and 4th unfortunately that only lasted a short time. From there I spent six years perfecting my banana bread recipe and many other creations, whether it was putting a fun twist on a classic recipe or creating a new cookie like my Coffee Butter Cookies. I learned that I can do anything I focus on and that the local business owners of Tucson are amazing when it comes to asking for advise in the field.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Some of my favorite spots in Tucson have to be Highwired for drinks, Food Groupie for Burgers, The Loft for a movie night, The Hut for Bloody Mary’s and to play big Jenga and even driving around to find some local markets such as Soul Food Wednesdays or the Elevate indoor farmers market.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Through my path on building Baked, I have met so many incredible people who have offered their help, advice and support that helped me grow Baked into the amazing and unique company that it is now. But, through it all my motivation came from my four children Andre, Dante, Nataliya and Dahliya who have come with me to events, help me setup, and even take care of customers, everything that I have built has been for them and they have supported and guided me more than they know.
