We had the good fortune of connecting with Kelly Vizzini and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kelly, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I see risk as stepping outside our comfort zone in whatever manner is necessary to redefine ourselves. For me, it has looked like moving away from everyone and everything I had known to start over in a new state because it felt right to do so as a self-test that I could do it on my own despite being a reserved introvert at 30.

The next big risk for me would shape another major move by teaching myself I could do anything I set my mind to do. It came in the package of facing a lifelong fear of falling (flights of stairs, high decks, bridges and the like were all issues). I overcame it by facing it head on through an activity that I thought would parallel it the most. It wasn’t something that was ever on my radar, and it took several months to work through various components of trust and faith along with focusing solely on the reason I was doing it. Doing a tandem skydive jump isn’t everyone’s chosen method to address a fear such as this one but completing it would help me take another huge leap a year later from being employed for twenty-five years to re-creating myself by becoming self employed.

With my business, Dream Pet Care, LLC, taking a risk was daring to be myself by incorporating differing structures and tools into the business. Bringing in animal Reiki, music therapy and communication to assist the pets in my care was a game changing experience for many of the pets and pet parents who in many cases had not heard of these tools before. It was a life changer for me as I began to step further outside my reserved introvert way of connecting with people to enter my natural way of being with the pets that opened the door with love, respect, and compassion for even the shyest to begin their own journey of learning to trust.

Risk is the avenue to create major movement in my life. From the outside it can appear big or small, but for the individual walking the journey it can be highly impactful endeavor filled with many life and business lessons that have far reaching capabilities to assist us not only in the moment, but also throughout our life.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Every day in every way I am re-creating myself and my business through incremental shifts in mindset and beliefs. In the beginning and now what makes me unique is who I am along with the tools of animal Reiki, music therapy, intuition, and others that I bring to the the pets in my care and their people. The key is I have always felt a deep love, connection, and respect for the animal beings. I have seen your dogs, cats, tortoises, rabbits, lizards and others as family despite the form they take. With this, I see the oneness we can all have in our lives. I see them as no different from you or I in what we want to experience in our day-to-day lives: love, friendship, compassion, to be seen for who we are, not who someone else wants us to be, to be heard and understood. They want what we want out of every relationship, someone to be fully present with them whether in companionship or during walks and play. As a person who is often more on the quiet side, I understand those animal beings who seem silent to others. I know it takes patience, love and their own sense of time to step forward to connect, interact and be around another. This aspect is my heart and, in many ways, the easy, natural part of who I am.

The more challenging aspect was stepping forward to be seen while learning life and business lessons as I created a business. I found building a business similar to what many parents experience with having their first child. There are MANY unknowns despite the books, classes and people who have done it before us. I too, felt like I was inventing the wheel as I was for me. There is always something different about raising a business (baby) that feels unlike anything we have read or heard when it is ours to nurture, love, and visualize its life based on where we are in the moment. There are always challenges for us to overcome. For me, I had to learn the importance in stepping back to see the big picture, breathe, review the obstacle which often was myself (or my beliefs, thoughts, emotions or perceptions), make changes, and move forward. One of the key lessons that invariably came up a lot, was the importance to include myself and my needs in every business decision along the path. I have learned that for any particular lesson to sink into place whether it is a seed planted long before or recently by a book, class, friend, or mentor, it will only do so when we are ready. And when it does, that is the right moment for us despite anyone else’s timeline.

Creating Dream Pet Care, LLC, a heart-centered business over the last six years has been a walk of passion and courage to show up for the pets that need the level of love, care and understanding I bring in myself to their homes through pet companion visits, overnights and Reiki sessions as well as for their people who often want to know ways to better understand their pets.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Being a lover of nature of all types, I would make sure our days include some local hiking at some of the Maricopa Parks and Recreation trails such as Hassayampa River Preserve, Cave Creek Regional Park, Lake Pleasant and the White Tanks as each offers very different environments in my eyes as well as moderate difficulty levels and topography. I would have us venture to Prescott, Sedona, and the Heard Museum to experience some history and local culture as well as walk around Old Town Scottsdale and/or Kierland Commons for an outdoor shopping experience with lunch or dinner. Going to a theatre production at Arizona Broadway Theatre would be a wonderful evening. Restaurants may include Cheesecake Factory, Texas Roadhouse, First Watch, Mimi’s Cafe and Wildflower.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Yes, on a personal level I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my mom. She has walked beside me through the obstacles, hiccups, unknowns, and the celebrations on my journey to become a new version of myself along with a heart-centered business owner. Some days were not pretty and the challenges at times many, yet she has been there. Through the process we have grown stronger together and individually empowering each other to keep moving forward on our own paths. In addition, I would like to acknowledge and thank Sunny Dawn Johnston who is my business mentor since 2020. Her program and team have given me the tools, support and encouragement to take my business to new levels as well as to continue working on myself, create more healthy boundaries, and honor the journey I am on.
