Meet Kent O’Jon | Exec. Dir. & Co-Founder of BMCC

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kent O’Jon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kent, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The mission of the Black Maricopa Chamber of Commerce is to promote economic independence and prosperity among Black business entrepreneurs in the City of Maricopa and surrounding areas. This was the very reason we founded the BMCC.
Our goal is to promote and improve business (income) for the business owner. This includes promotion and endorsement of our members’ services or products through social media, i.e. ( Facebook, Instagram, Nextdoor, and others.) We also want to make ourselves available to our members for advice or input into knowledge and strategies to increase their business growth.
What should our readers know about your business?
Kent O’Jon, has a degree in Social Psychology and a Master’s in Project Management. He has been purchasing, rehabbing, and renting properties for 30-plus years nationwide in the U.S. and has broadened his reach internationally.
Kent’s love of country led him to join the Marine Corps in 1984, where he served 15 years active and as a reservist. Next, he joined the Air National Guard and served 6 and 1/2 years as a Munition Technician and Security Forces Augmentee. In 2006 he joined the Army and served 11 years as a Military Policeman. During his service, he served two assignments in Iraq, one in Afghanistan, and one assignment in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’d take my best friend to visit Scottsdale for good food, shopping and view art galleries.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
All the current and potential minority business owners in the Metro Phoenix area and abroad, who go unrecognized for all of their hard efforts.
