Meet Kim Jenkins | Hairstylist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kim Jenkins and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kim, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I knew my time was quickly coming to an end at my previous salon I was employed at. I wanted a salon environment where my clients could escape from their busy lives to have a little bit of “me time” to be able to relax and leave feeling their best selves. After researching many large salons in my area, I came to the realization that I needed to bet on myself to create this space for my clients. I took the leap of faith and opened my little salon suite in January of 2020. And just like that, The Parlour Hair Studio was born.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I learned very early in my career that it is very important to stay teachable. Keeping this mindset has pushed me to constantly challenge myself with continuing education, not only to level up my craft but to give my clients the best service I can. I specialize in blonding and dimensional color, as well as certified in Invisible Bead Extensions®. The most exciting part about these services is by combining color and extensions, you are truly able to give clients their dream hair. And it really is an amazing feeling watching their self confidence go up after a service.
The most important thing I’ve learned as the professional is maintaining the health of the hair and scalp. Keeping the health of the hair in mind during all services also builds the trust with the client. Trust and mutual respect is the core of a client/stylist relationship, without both we won’t get very far.
I wish the world would know that you can have the hair of your dreams! With color and extensions all hair dreams can come true!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh man, so many great places! I would definitely take them to the Salt River to see the wild horses, and if its not too hot, go for a float down the river. Another venture would be to visit Sedona for hiking and browsing around the shops on Main Street. For breakfast or lunch, I would take them to D’lite for something quick or Eggstacy! Dinner would have to be between Hula’s Modern Tiki and their Painkiller cocktail, or my favorite restaurant Olive and Ivy!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First and foremost, my husband Derek. He is my number one cheerleader! I also wouldn’t be where I am today without the support of two very good friends of mine from California, Beth and Jen. I met them freshly licensed out of cosmetology school and they both took me under their wing when I was a very green stylist.
